Ok, so I introduced PS to the Divergent series in 2015, and we watched both Divergent and Insurgent in the same night. Then when Allegiant came out, she took me to see it because it came out close to my birthday.
I also introduced her to Hunger Games.
📚: That reminds me, you still have my HG book. Have you finished it yet? (She's had it since September 2016. [She's a really slow reader. Or she's forgotten about it. 😅])

Anyway, when I showed her Insurgent, she said something, can't remember now, or maybe it was me, about Tris' haircut.
It reminded us of TFIOS character Hazel. Now, I've only seen it once, and PS has only seen the trailers and TV commercials of it, but Tris reminded of us of Hazel so much it was annoying.
So then I went on a little rant to PS about how they shouldn't have cut Tris' hair the way they cut Hazel's because they look too similar. Then PS looked it up and was like, "Um, BD? They look similar because Shaliene Woodley plays them both."
Oh.
Well, that took the wind out of my sails for a minute, but then I got it back.

Why would you leave it as the same haircut? I get that she needed to cut her hair for Hazel, but there are such things as wigs or hair extensions. Because, as everyone knows, if an actor plays too many roles, they begin to overlap while you're watching the movie. (Except for Johnny Depp and Nicholas Cage. Depp isn't recognisable in many of his roles so you don't overlap with him, and Cage... is just Nicholas Cage. He's had too many roles that you can't see his character any more, you just see the actor.)
But Hazel and Tris had begun to overlap for me, and once it starts, you can never go back. It doesn't make a movie enjoyable.
And yes, I know Tris had to cut her hair anyway, but they could have made it a bit longer, so it was still shorter than her original length, but could be classed as a hair cut.

And while we're on the subject, why would you make an actor play the main protag in two movies when the books have such huge followings?
I mean, DIA is one of the big 5! (HP, TMI, PJ, THG, DIA.) Why would you have someone who plays the main character of a big 5 play the main in another film that lots of people fan over?
It's like with Daniel Radcliffe. No matter what he does or what movie he's in, no one will ever be able to see him as anything other than the Boy Who Lived, as The Woman in Black proved.

Then we have the brother/lover.
Caleb and Augustus are played by the same actor, Ansel Elgort.
That is... kinda disturbing on so many levels.
And the funny thing is Divergent and TFIOS were filmed during the same year. I wonder if Shaliene and Ansel ever mixed up characters on set? I mean, started acting like lovers on DIA set? Or doing it on purpose to freak out Theo (Tobias)?

Why would you make the actors the same because they start to overlap!
It doesn't make much sense. Why would you want the same actor for two big roles?
Just, grrr. It's annoying.
