Fandom Rants 6 The Spelling

Names being spelt wrong. This is more 'watching problems' than 'reading problems', but I have seen authors who have read the books spell important names wrong. Like, what, you weren't paying attention to the 500 odd times the name was literally right in front of you?
These are also not one-offs, but constant (or often enough to annoy me, which is probably twice every chapter) throughout their fanfics.

Miraculous: Marinet/Marnette/Marinete/Marionette, Adrian, Alia/Ayla, Gabriele/Gabrial.
Marinette, Adrien, Alya, Gabriel.
Hetalia: Francos, Victor, Felichiano, Lucino, Gillbert, Felix, Mathius/Mathias, Lucas.
Francis(1P)/Francois(2P), Viktor, Feliciano, Luciano, Gilbert, Feliks, Matthias, Lukas.
FT: Levi, Ezra, Grey, Laksus/Luxus, Mirajean.
Levy, Erza, Gray, Laxus, Mirajane.
AoT: Levy, Amin, Erin, Jon, Crista.
Levi, Armin, Eren, Jean, Krista.
TMI: Jase, Alex/Alek, Valentin, Mangus, Clarisa.
Jace, Alec, Valentine, Magnus, Clarissa
HP: Hemonine/Hermone, Sevris/Sevrus/Severes, Wesley, Lilly, Serious/Serius, Lucyus (Like... How?! Why could you even seriously think there was a Y in it!?), Malloy, Victor.
Hermione, Severus, Weasley, Lily, Sirius, Lucius, Malfoy, Viktor (Krum).
PJ: I'm not going to write them all, but chances are every Greek name has been spelt wrong somewhere, somehow, somewhen. There's a reason why "It looks Greek to me" is a saying.

When writing Magnus quickly, I have written Mangus, but I do something called 'spellchecking' before I publish it.
Gray being spelt as Grey, yes, I understand that because grey is English for the colour light black, just as gray is light black in American. But his name is spelt Gray. It may be because many of the translators are American, but still. His name in his Wiki is Gray.
Luxus was a valid translated name before we got the proper English translation of Laxus, but years after the correct name had been released, you really have no excuse.
Strangely enough, while people get the simpler names in AoT wrong, like Eren or Levi, they're usually fine with Reiner, Bertolt, Ymir. How? If you know those names, surely the others are easier!
I mean, I can understand some Hetalian names being wrong. Victor, Felix and Lucas are actually valid names. Just not in Russian, Polish or Norwegian. If writing about the human names, you need to remember that they are from different countries, they may have different spellings. There is literally no X in the Polish alphabet-That's why it's Feliks instead of Felix. (Also, Felix reminds me of Chat Noir. Not that that's got anything to do with it. Just thought you should know.)

Also, I found one that I absolutely had to laugh at.
So, we all know it's Hogsmeade, right? Hogsmeade, the village outside Hogwarts. But one author called Hogsmaid.
*snort laugh* I mean, really-Hogsmaid. I can't-*giggle* I can't even. It's just super funny to me, even now, months after I read it.

"OMG, I am so Serius (Serius Black from Harry Potter) about this."
1-You spelt it WRONG!
2-You bolded it, and actually highlighted your mistake.
3-You had to explain where it was from.
If you were so into HP like you say you are, you'd know how to spell it. If it was spelt correctly, you wouldn't have had to do 2 or 3, because if it was spelt correctly, anyone would have seen the capital letter and realised it was a name. Most people, especially on Wattpad, have heard of HP, and known there was a character called Sirius, so would've known exactly who you were talking about.

I am ashamed to admit, for about 4 and a half years, I thought the Vocaloid song was Levan Polka. Not Ievan Polka, which is the actually spelling.
But I and l look really similar! It's not my fault!
(It is a common mistake, though, so I'm glad I'm not alone.)

I know these Greek myths like the back of my hand. So do not, I repeat, do NOT, tell me that Hercules was his actual name.
'Hercules' is Latin. The first, original version was Greek. His Greek name (In English) is Heracles. If you constantly refer to Hercules, we know you are thinking of the Disney movie. Although it does do a great job, *cue: sarcasm* Disney's Hercules is not the real myth.
If your whole fanfic is based on these gods, make sure you get their proper forms! If they're Greek, get the Greek spelling. If they're Roman, do the Roman name. Do not have both Athena and Jupiter living on Olympus at the same time, because it doesn't work like that (Unless you're setting it in the first half of HoO, but even then, make it make sense!)
If you constantly swap between calling her Athena and Minerva, your readers are going to get so confused. Plus, they aren't the same person! (Or deity, as the case is.)

If you are doing a rant about spelling, you NEED TO BE ABLE TO SPELL in your book!
Not naming any names, but I read a rant book and a chapter was on TMI's Jase. Now, this was funny, because literally the NEXT CHAPTER was a rant about how people need to spell names from shows properly.
Excuse you? Check your own housework before you correct someone else's dusting.
That's partly why I am glad I am a spelling Nazi, because I check and recheck my sentences before I even think about publishing them, and if I do get caught out, it's by words that I don't use often or ones that are 15 letters long.
But not MAIN CHARACTER'S names! Jesus!
