*SPOILERS* FB1

Also, to keep them seperate, the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is shortened to FB, and the textbook written by Newt is shortened to FBWFT. Just so we're clear.

Leta and Bellatrix Lestrange

Bellatrix IS NOT BLOOD RELATED TO LETA!
WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THAT THEY ARE?!
SHE IS NOT RELATED!!!
Bellatrix Black married Rupert Lestrange. They are in Azkaban together before escaping.
She is not a blood relative, so anyone saying, "Leta will be insane, because Bella was nuts"--THAT ISN'T HOW IT WORKS!
Bellatrix has no relation with Leta except in marriage. They are in-laws however many times removed. It might even be possible that Leta was at their wedding, since wizards can live for 150ish years without a problem, and there is only a 70 year gap between FB (1920s) and HP (1990s).
I mean, they might be marginally related, since Bellatrix is a pureblood, and the pureblood witches and wizards have a limited gene pool to choose from, but that's beside the point. (But if they were that close, Bellatrix and Rupert probably wouldn't be able to get married. I mean, I couldn't find anything about how the WW feels on incest, but I don't think even they would go that far to keep the bloodlines pure. But you never know. Maybe that's why Bella is insane. But then, why aren't any of the other Blacks nutters?)
But she is NOT a direct blood relative of Leta's. At. All.

Also, not much point in worrying about Leta as a love interest for Newt. As those who have actually read FBWFT know, "Now retired, he (Newt) lives in Dorset with his wife Porpentina and their pet Kneazles: Hoppy, Milly, and Mauler." (Scamander N., 1927)
(Yes, I'm doing Harvard referencing. It is a textbook after all.)
And as we all know, one of the main characters in FB was Tina Goldstein, whose full name is Porpentina.
So if you ship NewTa, or LeWt, or whatever weird shipname they have (personally, I like NewTa better), prepare to be disappointed, because they will not end up together. (Unless the screenwriters decide to fuck up another of the key parts of Newt's life that we know from FBWFT.)

*Professor glasses-On. Two students [PS and M🥜] straighten in their seats*
*Clearing throat* I draw your attention to the following passage from the Hogwarts Textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In Mr Newt Scamander's own written words, it says:
"Upon graduation from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Mr. Scamander joined the Ministry of Magic" (Scamander, N., 1927)
*Stares out at class of two* Upon Graduation! So, why did Newt get expelled from Hogwarts in FB?
Did Mr Scamander lie in his own textbook? What would be the point? Or did the screenwriters, or possibly even J.K. herself, decide that they were going to change his whole history so he was expelled? Possibly because they couldn't be fucked following what J.K. already wrote?

Yes, they say in an interview that they changed it to kind of aline Newt with Hagrid, but why? Hagrid is already such a good character, and by changing that, you kinda fuck up the whole 'Hagrid got expelled' shock in CS because it's already happened before.
You can already tell they both get outcasted because of their love for creatures, you don't need their history to be the same to show that. Because then you are basically copying your own characters, which will disappoint everyone because they are such good characters on their own without being the same!
What next, we'll find out Newt is actually part giant? (In which case, I fucking quit.)
And then, going on the movies, you realise Hogwarts has a creature control problem, with 2 different creatures 'running loose' in Hogwarts in a gap of about 20 years. Having that big a problem is not a good thing when you've got a 'Care of Magical Creatures' class, is it? The professor obviously isn't doing their job properly!

Also, please note who published Newt's book in 1927... Obscurus Books.
With the 'newfound knowledge' of what an Obscurus actually is... Why the hell would you name a company after them?
Another time J.K. just says, "Fuck it, can't be bothered making up a new word. Oh, look here's a sufficently dark and mysterious one. No one will notice if I steal it FROM THE BOOK THE MOVIE IS BASED OFF!!!!"
Really, J.K.? I mean, I love your work and all, but you're getting lazy in your old age.

Before, when I got FBWFT, I just thought Newt was a boring old know-it-all, and apart from the beasts I knew, I honestly wasn't interested in the book that much. But now, I see him writing it, and I see his passion for the animals in his writing.
It's kind of amazing what movies can do to their books, isn't it?

Last question. Promise.
Anyone rereading FBWFT, and hearing the narration in Eddie Redmayne's voice? Because I am.

Pancake Stack is going to Sydney for RTX! (Rooster Teeth Expo!)
We're going for 6 days, so we can have a holiday before and after the weekend. We are going one day as the Flower Scouts from Camp Camp and the other, PS is Simple Farmer Geoff, Moustachio is a chicken (both from that Minecraft Let's Play) and I am Hilda from X-Ray and Vav.
So, anyone in Sydney, give us a holler and we could meet up!
Fair warning, I don't know when I'll publish the next chapter, because RTX is 3rd-4th, so it'll be published on that weekend. It might be normal time Sunday morning or Sunday night/3:00am Monday.
