Chapter 50! Whoop, whoop!
Maybe this will get more people to read RFR!
If they decide to change the little chapter count thingy when searching for new books to read, this book will finally show up in the 50+ section.)
As it is the 50th chapter, I hereby order a recital of all the personal beliefs, wrong fandom behaviours, and mistakes I have come across in the past 20 months, in RL. Wattpad and YouTube will be in the chapters after this.
Be warned: I get very angry, sweary, sarcastic, rude and sassy as fuck. If you don't like that sort of thing:
1-Why the fuck are you in this book then? It's called 'Random Fandom Rants'! What did you expect was gonna be in here, bloody rainbows?
2-Try to read over the sarcastic parts, though they are what makes it fun instead of rude as hell.
3-Skip these chapters. Simple as that. No one's stopping you. Fuck off.
(Sorry. That was a bit too harsh. Romano's rubbing off on me.)
To future readers—Because no one has actually read up to this point... :(
I will not lie on here and say you are all perfect, because nobody is. (Even me. I have to admit, I have done a couple of the things I rant about here.) And if you write or comment or whatever, chances are you would've done at least one thing that I rant about at one point or another.
But I am not ranting about you in particular, even if you think I am. Don't be afraid to ask where I found the comment, story, whatever just to make sure it wasn't you.
Most of this is pretty general though, so that's easier to swallow than a specific thing someone did.
So, now, sit back, enjoy, and if you have noticed yourself doing one of these things, try to see if you could stop. It makes an easier world for everyone.
Hetalia is slowly taking over the world.
You need to see this fact, absorb it, and continue on with your life forever knowing it.
In every single convention and convention video out there, there will be at least one Hetalian cosplayer walking around in the background. Know it, see it, remember it.
Ne Ne Papa, Motherfuckers!
Hating on a fandom because it is a cartoon instead of an anime. Particularly ATLA and MLP.
To be fair, ATLA is considered more of an anime than a cartoon and is more accepted because of that. Like Pokėmon, which is technically a cartoon because it is not a Japanese animation, but everyone lumps it into the anime category anyway.
But MLP is definietly considered a 'little kid's cartoon'.
When you see a MLP cosplayer at a convention, you have to admit, you've stepped to the side, at least once, trying to ignore the human horse in your way . . . Unless you were the MLP cosplayer, in which case, you finally know why everyone was ignoring you, don't cha?
The theme song gets stuck in your head, and you can't get it out. You find yourself humming it, then realise you've been singing it for more than 3 hours.
Then you start singing it at a friend's house and get it stuck in their head (Sorry, PS. Though you did return the favour with AoT, so we're even).
And the song finally goes away!
To come back extra loud at 3 in morning. God-fucking-damnit.
Too many runes.
Trying to write in Greek, then getting Dwarvish runes in there for some reason.
Or writing in Dwarvish, then forgetting what the rune for J was, so putting in the Greek letter instead.
When the actors of a popular series are only known as that character, even though they became famous a decade before the books even came out!
Using HP as an example, because everyone knows those actors.
All of those characters are brought to life so well that it's hard to see Snape and McGonagall in another movie. But they have been! They got the HP roles because they had already been in the movie industry! Maggie Smith was made a Dame because she was so good at her job. To name a few, Downtown Abbey
Now, yes, I have looked at a movie actor list and gone "Oh, Bellatrix's in it. I'll watch it then." But that's because that's how I recognise her, and I know that the movie is going to be good. And I don't forget that she has been in other movies other than HP-Alice in Wonderland and Lés Mis, for example-like everyone else seems to do.
People often seem to forget HP actors have played other movies' characters unless it's Diggory and... him.
I knew Alan Rickman as Marvin long before I knew him as Snape. To me, he started as the paranoid android and then became the evil potions master we love to hate. Rickman did so much, it's sad to think that people don't recognise his other works because he's too overpowered as Snape.
That was one thing that bothered me about all the tributes when he died.
"Alan Rickman, the Severus Snape, is no longer with us." "He played Snape fantastically and we will never forget him."
Well, it turns out you already have. He had never been just Snape. He was Marvin, ---------. He brought all of these characters to life, yet no one remembered them in their tribute to Rickman. He did so much more with his life. In your tribute to him, you're leaving out so many things that he had achieved.
You should remember you're mourning the death of an actual real-life person, not just his character.
Just... shipping. I'm going to keep it real simple here, because we all know the problems.
-"I ship A and B, therefore you can't ship A and C."
-AB vs AC fights.
-500 angry replies to one casual comment about who you ship A with.
-Hate on multi-shippers. (Those who ship A with B, C, D, E, F, and K.) Though really, I don't see the problem with it. Some ships work both ways. Or should I say sail? ;)
-Putting pressure on people to ship AC. (*raises hand* Yeah, I've done this. But really, how could you not ship it!? They're perfect for each other!)
Newbie fans going "Oh, I've read 1 book, I know everything about that universe now." or "Oh, I've seen one episode of two anime. I'm a otaku now."
No. Doesn't work like that.
And they pronounce otaku 'ot-a-koo'. (For you people who aren't anime fans, and are reading this for the book+movie rants, it's actually pronounced 'o-tar-koo'. There you go, fun fact of the day.)
Something else that really annoys me about newbie fans. They try so hard to put in references to any anime/movies/books/etc that they've watched/read... and say it wrong.
"Oh, I'd love to play the violin! Austria would be so proud of me."
*Shakes head in disgust* It's Norway with the violin. Not Austria-He has the piano. Say it with me: Pi-An-O.
American HP fans shouting at you because you are saying Philospher's Stone.
They yell/SCREAM WRITE/whatever, and say that we are the ones who are wrong.
I'm sorry, but no. Only the American version has it as Sorcerer's Stone. In the original English, it is Philospher's.
That was actually a direct quote from one of my replies to a stupid American saying that exact thing. Their response? To ignore me. (It was through YouTube, and there was only a 3 day gap between his comment and mine, so I know the account was still active.)
