AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Why the FUCK WOULD YOU CHANGE LYRICS TO SONGS?!Okay, so we all know the movies with songs in them. Whether it be The Hunger Games with Hanging Tree or The Battle of Five Armies with the Dwarves returning song.
The authors wrote those songs with specific stories in mind. It is not your place to change them so you can fuck up the reason behind it. Especially with the Hobbit, because the author is DEAD. He can't yell at you for getting it wrong. So, I will do it in his place.THG: The Hanging Tree
"Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
Where they strung up a man,
They say he murdered three.
Strange things did happen here,
No stranger would it be,
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree."Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
Where the dead man called out
For his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here,
No stranger would it be,
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree."Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
Where I told you to run,
So we'd both be free.
Strange things did happen here,
No stranger would it be,
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree."Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
Wear a necklace of rope,
Side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here,
No stranger would it be,
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree."The song in MJ (book) is about how the dead murderer wants his love to share in the punishment of crime, so she might've had something to do with the murder, or just that he thought it was her fault. Either way, it is about both of them dying in the end.
In the movie, they changed the word "rope" to "hope". They say it's because it fits better. No. No, it doesn't. If it had been what Suzanne wanted it to say, it would've been hope in the book.
But it wasn't. It was rope.
Because rope kills. It changed the whole fucking idea!
The idea was guilt and how the lover was taking a bit of the blame by killing themselves.
In the movie version, it basically means that hope is deadly. Hope will kill you in the end.
How is that a good thing? Espeacially as (if you look at it this way) Katniss is foreshadowing her own sister's death!
They hoped that they would be able to get to Snow, they hoped that the children would be okay and thus sent medics in. She hoped they would all make it.
Hope kills people. That is the message I got from MJ2.The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies:
"The King beneath the mountain,
The King of carven stone,
The lord of sliver fountains
Shall come into his own!"His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung."The woods shall wave on mountains
And grass beneath the sun;
His wealth shall flow in fountains
And the rivers golden run."The streams shall run in gladness,
The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness
At the Mountain-king's return!"The song was to celebrate the Dwarves returning, and how prosperity would return to Laketown and Dale-"The rivers golden run". The people of Laketown were happy about the dwarves returning (until Smaug came down anyway), and those songs were sung outside their windows.
But instead, it was turned into a song foreshadowing the destruction of Laketown. It turned into a prophecy that foretold the dwarves would wreck Laketown, just as Smaug did to Dale. It turned their homecoming victory into a funeral dirge.
That was wrong! And as for the explanation in the movie? The reasoning behind the prophecy?
They have no proof it was a real prophecy (at the time. Of course, it does turn out to be true, but that is nothing to base your reactions on!) Middle Earth does have true prophets, but no human has ever been a true prophet, and there is no Elven mark on the prophecy, therefore, no proof it was recorded by a Elvish seer. As such, they would not have known any of that for truth.
So it doesn't make sense in that way anyway.I'm sure there's a lot more, but these are the two that I could think of on the plane to Sydney, and haven't really had the time to find more book-to-movie songs to get annoyed at, so this is what you get, a kinda badly written, not-really thought out, short rant about two things.
But hey, RTX is great, so look forward to that con video on Pancake Stack sometime soonish. And the answer to how many 42s I wrote in the first chapter of the year...
58.
It was a trick question. The line of 42 above the question had 42, yes, but I said 'above' the question. And I wrote 42 16 times in the actual rant (including the title). So, did you get that answer?
