Chapter 73

March 29, 1956

Jackie sat in the living room with Eunice and Sargent. Bobby Jr. was playing with Bella, Bella and Maria didn't like each other much it seemed.

Maria threw a candle at Bella... Eunice said she wasn't usually like thatand Jackie believed that, she just wondered how Maria was related to Eunice and Sargent, neither of them ever seemed like they would do something like that...

Maria was asleep in her mother's arms, Bella occasionally somehow managed to throw something at Maria while making it seem like an accident.

Jackie sighed and rolled her eyes, though did nothing to stop it, she had no energy.

Eunice and Sargent were chatting happily about something or the other. Jackie stared at the wall, thinking of Jack.

"So what do you think?" Eunice asked Jackie.

Jackie startled,"What?"

Eunice sighed but Sargent said,"Who do you think will be president after Eisenhower is done?"

Jackie's mind suddenly flashed back to that day at breakfast...

Jack turned to Jackie, his expression Solemn,"Jackie. After Eisenhower's done with this term, I'm going to try to run for president."

Jackie choked on the milk she was drinking.

She recovered quickly and turned to Jack, face laced with concern,"Jack, if that happens and you do become president Bella would only be four, three at the time you won the election!"

Jack sighed and laced his fingers through Jackie's hand,"Jackie, I want to give back to the country which has given me so much. It's given me life, jobs, options, a home, and... you Jackie. You."

Jackie sighed,"Let's continue this conversation another time, not as soon as I got home from the hospital."

Jack nodded, and scratched his neck before standing up and going to read a book to Bella.

"I..." Jackie stuttered.

"I... I'll be right back." Jackie stood up quickly and ran upstairs.

Jackie ran into her room, looking for something.

It wasn't there.

She ran into Bella's room, it also wasn't there.

"Come on.... Where is it?" Jackie muttered.

She ran into the hallway, looked at the wall and she sighed in relief. There it was.
