And some do it for survival.

What you are reading right now is a tale of a young girl who, alongside 12 other people, is thrust into a world of sorrow, betrayal and killing in the name of survival.

All for a chance to become the new God.

Shino Sato is a 16-year-old high school student living in Tokyo, Japan.

A typical looking student of her age, Shino has navy blue hair with red highlights near the bottom, and jet black eyes. She wears the the standard uniform of her school, Taisho High School, as well as a purple hooded jacket over it. She wears this jacket even on warm days.

She might seem like your average high school student at first. But deep inside, she carries lots of secrets from within her.

FRIDAY

-Class 1-C 12:19 PM-

Lunch time at Taisho High School. While the rest of the school are mingling around with their friends, Shino was just sitting around, twirling her ballpen.

Aloof and asocial, Shino didn't like talking to anyone else other than the few people she trusts. For the longest time, Shino has also been wary about strangers, after a certain traumatic experience from her childhood.

Soon enough, she was approached by a fellow student with blond, shoulder-length hair with a sidetail and blue eyes. Like all the other students, she wore the standard issue Taisho uniform. She seems to be of half-foreign descent.

It was Mayuka Goto, her best friend. Shino and Mayuka were best friends ever since childhood, and Mayuka is one of the few people whom Shino fully trusts.

"Hi there, Shino!" Said Mayuka. "Gee, today's lessons are quite hard."

"Yeah..." Shino replied.

"Say, how about I study with you tonight?" Said Mayuka.

"I dunno, Mayu... You know my dad. Very strict and all." Shino replied.

"Oh, right..." Said Mayuka.

"So, what's up? Got anything new?" Shino replied.

"Oh, about that. Remember the scissors that I borrowed from you about a month or so?" Said Mayuka.

"Yeah, I kinda remember. Dad's been looking for them for a while now." Shino replied. "So, have you got it now?"

"Yup. Here it is." Said Mayuka as she hands over the pair of scissors to Shino. "Sorry it took so long before I returned it."

"Don't worry, Mayu. No big deal." Shino replied.
