Matthew's POV
I watched her devour the beef empanada, she must really love it. Her facial expression lit up by one bite like she was in food heaven.
''Oh my God that was so delicious you can bring me food anytime." She said wiping her mouth.
''I didn't think you'd like it that much." I said.
''One thing you should definitely know about is that I love food especially from the islands."
I laughed and pulled out the printed speech and put it in front of her. I already completed it and I wanted to know her suggestions or feedback. Our scenario was money over friends and family. This topic actually related to my personal life because I knew how it feels and I have experience by it.
''I want you to read all of it and tell what you think." I said while she was munching on hot chips.
''Sure.'' She said picking up the paper.
While she read, I just watched her how carefully she took her time to read each word with no rush. I seen how her facial expression changes at certain points. Her caramel complexion , dark brown eyes, dark brown hair and small lips. She looked like a girl who didn't have a worry at all. By how she smiles and laughs all the time. But the most I liked about her is her inner person and understanding and how she maintains eye contact. I could never get tired of her, she didn't care about how cute I was she cared about the real me inside. She finished reading and placed the paper down.
''Okay I have some good things and little suggestions. First, I love how each statement flows gracefully and speaks to the audience. Second, I feel like you're being too emotional to the audience which is good but remember we are trying to get a hardcore point across so yeah. Almost I am very shy when it comes to presenting things.'' She said.
''Oh I understand where you're coming from and don't worry I'll definitely help you with the presentation. Okay since we got the speech completed with ideas and suggestions how about we walk around the park?'' I said.
''Okay, that would be nice.'' She replied. She got up and began throw away the food wrappers and containers, I helped fold the blanket and set it into the basket.
We began walking into the Arthur Ross Pinetum playground. There were no kids there with was surprising well there are other playgrounds around here. I watched her set the picnic basket down and make her way to the swings. I made my way to the swings and began swinging just like Becca did.
''So what's your nationality?'' I asked.
''I'm American. My father is Puerto Rician, Irish and Jamaican descent. My mother is Irish, English and Dominican descent.''
''Wow, that's interesting. I'm American. My father is English and German descent. My mother was Colombian.
''Oh, so that's why you know how to make good empanadas. Your grandma taught you well.'' She said patting my back.
I laughed and went to go sit on the nearby bench, she followed me and sat with me.
''Do you think you can take me to my roommate's boyfriend apartment. I called her earlier but he picked up, something doesn't seem right.'' She said with a concerned look on her face.
''Do you want to go now?'' I asked.
"Yes please'' She said. She began gathering her things and the picnic basket, and we started walking up the park path.
Becca's POV
All I could think about right now was Sasha and what Josh did to her. I began walking kind of fast but slowed down so Matthew could catch up to me. My body was filled with worry and anger. I should have never let her go and spend the weekend with Josh. Once she starts something she can never finish it when it comes to her boyfriend. We finally reached the exit of the park and made our way towards the car, Matthew put the picnic basket in the trunk and we both stepped inside the car.
''Can you give me the address so I can put it in my GPS?'' He asked.
''Okay it is Manhattan East, 213 East 66th street.
He began to type in the address of the apartment and started the GPS. It is 30 minutes away from Central Park. He started the engine and reversed onto the street, following the GPS every direction. The ride was quiet, I was too much in worry to even talk. I kept thinking about the bruise I saw on Sasha stomach that night she came drunk.
''Don't worry, everything will be okay.'' He said looking at me.
I nodded my head in agreement and stared at the window, Sasha is going to ruin her future if she stays with Josh any longer. But she'll never listen to me anyway.
''You have made it to your destination'' The GPS said.
I unbuckled my seat belt. ''Do you want me to come with you?'' He asked.
''Yes you can keep me safe if anything escalates.'' I said
He nodded his head in agreement and stepped out of the car. We made our way to the apartment building and stepped onto the stairs to go inside. The door man greeted us at the door. I went up to the front desk where a lady with blonde hair was working.
''Hi, do you need help with anything?'' She asked with a smile.
''Hi, I'm looking for Josh Taboe's apartment. I'm a friend of his girlfriend.'' I said politely.
She began typing in her computer and searching for his apartment number.
''Ah Josh Taboe. Apartment 5C, it is on the fifth floor. Third door to your left.'' She said.
''Thank you'' I said.
Me and Matthew made our way to the elevator. Matthew hit the 5 on the elevator. I felt my body began to tense up, Matthew held my hand so I can relax. The elevator made a ding sound and we were on the fifth, we made our way to the left side of the floor until we came up 5C. There was loud music coming from the apartment. I knocked on the door as hard as I could. The music stopped playing and Josh swung open the door.
''Didn't I tell you to leave us alone, are you that stupid?'' He said with a bottle of liquor in his hand.
''Hey, no need to talk to her that way. She just came here to find her roommate so back off.'' Matthew said.
''And what are you going to do about Mexican?'' Josh said laughing taking another gulp of his liquor.
Before I knew, Matthew kicked Josh in the chest causing him to fall, Matthew began to get on top of Josh, punching him uncontrollably. Josh punched Matthew in the stomach causing him to get off of him. But Matthew got up and grabbed Josh's head and banged it on the wooden table. Josh fell unconscious. I rushed down the hall, looking for Sasha until I found her beaten up in the bathroom, she was semi-conscious. I began to move her hair where her eye was bruised up. Matthew picked her up from the floor and held her up in his arms. I began grabbing her bag and stuffing her clothes and phone etc in the bag. Matthew was in the hallway waiting for me, when I was done getting her stuff, I stared down at Josh and kicked him. ''Asshole'' I said. I went out the door and made my way over to Matthew.
''We can't leave from the front of the building or we'll attract attention on us.'' He said.
''Give me your car keys, I'll pull up the car to the back of the building and wait for you there.'' I said.
He nodded and I dug in his pockets for his keys and we went our separate ways. I ran over to the elevator and waited for it to ding. The elevator finally came and I got in and pressed the star which is the lobby. I waited and the elevator opened with a ding. The doorman opened the door and said have a nice day. I made my way over to the car and stepped inside, started the engine and made my way around the corner to the back of the building. Matthew was already outside holding Sasha in his arms. He placed Sasha in the back seat slowing. I got out of the driver side and went in the back to be with Sasha. Matthew went to the driver side and took off to the nearby hospital..I hope Sasha will be okay....I'm glad Matthew was there to help me get her out of that apartment...
