"It's the little things that'll make you remember, Claire." I whispered. She turned her head to look at me as I tucked a strand away from her face. "All we had to do, is make the best of these memories. And cherish them so we can look back and smile...not become sad."
"Luke Hemmings," she muttered with a shaky voice then layed her head on my shoulder, "when I look back at our exciting and adventurous memories with our best friends, I will do nothing but sob." Claire whispered as I pushed away the tears.
It was our last night together. Our last night before moving on and leaving our separate ways. Our last night watching the stars together on the rooftop of her dad's work. She was fleeing to the US to chase her dreams while attending college and I decided I would chase my dream of music. We agreed that breaking up would save both us painful heart breaks but we would stay in touch.
Now we both knew that wouldn't be for long before one of us would become too busy. We didn't know when we were going to see each other again soon but it surely wouldn't be this year. High school was probably the best time of my life even though my life is just starting.
I will never find a girl like Claire. A girl who stole my heart at 16 in the middle of a gig as I stared at her in the crowd as she was belting out the lyrics to the song my best friend wrote. Jumping around and screaming as if she would be 16 forever.
We wished.

"Hey it's that underwear song again!" My coworker grinned and I raised an eyebrow. I didn't want to ask. It was probably some song about sex anyway. She knew I wasn't interested in songs about that yet she still spammed me with links of songs regarding sex.
"Get back to work Jamie." I rolled my eyes as she danced around the store with clothing items in her hand. She picked up a shirt and grabbed the sleeves then twirled around with it.
"You look so perfect standing there!" She screamed out as a customer walked in with her kid. They both gave Jamie a wide eyed look then turned away.
"Why do they even have such an inappropriate song in a kids clothing store?" I muttered to myself and shook my head as I grabbed a pile of clothes and began taking hangers off them.
I didn't exactly make it. I wanted to become a writer. I wanted people to read me on the New York and Times. I wanted to become the new John Green. I tried doing other things like being a journalist but I just wanted to write novels. I wanted to publish books 700 pages long.
The song finished and Jamie continued her work as I continued mine. The door bell jingled as more customers walked in. I glanced up and smiled.
"Hi welcome to Gymboree!" I mumbled forcing a smile as a few people smiled in reply then I spotted my best friend walking in.
"Bea!" I squealed running over with a big smile. She grinned in return and grabbed my arm and pulled me towards to the back of the store.
"Close your eyes and open your hands." She whispered and I nodded and did what she told. I heard some shuffling then something was placed in my hand. It felt like paper.
"Is it paper?" I asked.
"Yes but what do you think is in the paper?"
"Well it doesn't feel like printing paper it feels like a picture."
"What picture can I possibly be showing you?"
"Um...one from our college days? I don't know? Did you find an old photo of us?"
