Chapter 6

Nick adviced me not to tell Emma and Ethan I knew until we knew for sure that we could trust them. I made sure I didn't act differently towards them. The last few weeks had been everything BUT peaceful, the evening when I came home after the scene in the Chinese restaurant, the house was egged by two kids. Also Juliette saw some guys spying at us. Due to their license plate, Nick found out their address and we paid them a visit at the place. It turned out to be the repairman, and after a talk with them, they promised to leave us alone. During the autumn break I went with Nick and Hank as help, captian Renard thankfully approved. We had a case with a organ harvest, dead lovers, but the worst one... kidnapped Juliette. And all of those cases involved wesen. Because of the kidnapping, Juliette met Monroe and it was really hard to come up with a good story how they met. Nick came up with one and she bought it, so we could breath a little. But the weirdest case we had, was a failed jewelry store robbery which resultee in a murder that found Nick immersed in a hunt for rare coins. We soon learned that these coins had an unsettling effect on whoever possessed them, as Hank and Captain Renard began to exhibit unusual behavior. It turned out to be the coins of Zakynthos. Skin contact with these coins exposes the holder to dangerously high levels of arsenic and mercury. This impacts the central nervous system, and the resulting symptoms cause this person to feel a rush of power and control. Nick took the coins and hid them in the weapon cabinet in the trailer. School started two days after that case, thankfully, because it got even more heated. The only good thing... we got a new friend in the wesen world.... a fuchsbau, her name was Rosalee. She came here because her brother was murdered and now she stayed to run bis spice shop. Now the bad things... we got more reapers on our head. A suspect in a case Nick was working on contacted them and sent them to kill us. To say it bluntly... they lost their head, literally. Hank got something with the woman who tried to kill aunt Marie, her name was Adalind. After Nick found out about her plan of getting the key we got from aunt Marie, he confronted her and - with his grimm blood - took away her hexenbiest powers. Clearly... she must be angry at him, but she disappeared. Hank - again - also got his first sight of a wesen. To make it worse, it was a woged Monroe. Trust me, a blutbad is not a good one to start with... He is paranoid now. Hey, they never said life would be easy...

I still don't understand what this key has to do with all of it." I said, holding it against the light. It was Friday afternoon and Nick and I sat in the trailer, discussing the last events and just learning. It is important, otherwise aunt Marie didn't want us to guide it with our life OR Adalind wouldn't have gone through all that trouble to get it. I sighed and hid the key again. "What is your latest case?" I asked. Our suspect is Akira Kimura, he beat a coin dealer in Hamburg, the same dealer that sold the coins of Zakynthos to our dealer here in Portland. He was seen here in Portland. I frowned. "Do you think he is looking for the coins?" I asked worriedly. I am sure of it. He already attacked captain Renard in his home and he has pictures of Hank, Wu, Renard and me. We also suspect he has an accomplice. "Speaking of complicated..." I muttered. Nick chuckled humorless. Yeah well, the life of a grimm is complicated. My phone went and I took it out, grinning at Nick. "Don't remind me..." I saw it was Emma and I frowned, taking it. "Hey Em.." Emma was breathing heavily and I could hear her sobbing, as if she had been crying. "Emma, are you okay?!" I asked worriedly. C-Could you c-come over? I-I really n-need you right n-now. "Of course... I'll be there in ten minutes." I hung up. "Emma is in trouble, I better go and see her." All right, be careful. "Sure thing..." I grinned. "Have fun with Juliette, I heard you are going out for dinner." He rolled his eyes. "Just go." I giggled and walked out, getting in my car. During the drive my worry grew, I wondered why Emma was so panicked, it wasn't like her at all. Arriving at the Norwood's house, I quickly walked inside. Mrs Norwood was just in the hallway. Elena... She seemed to understand. Emma is in her bedroom, you know the way right? "Yes... thank you Mrs. Norwood." I turned off my phone whole I walked to Emma's room, I would be there for her. I knocked. "Emma? It is me." Come in... I walked in and closed the door behind me. Emma sat on her bed, her eyes red and puffy. "Hey..." I sat down next to her. "What happened?" Mother and father had a fight... and things went a little wrong. I inspected her up and down, she had no injuries I could see. "What was the fight about?" Father doesn't agree how mother handles Ethan and me. He has a kind of... old-fahsioned way of living. This wasn't the first fight, but it was the first time mom said she would leave my dad if he continued this way and well... I panicked. I felt sorry for her, I could imagine that wasn't nice to hear your mother say. "She was probably just angry, she didn't mean it." I laid an arm around her. "It will be fine..." She smiled at me. Thank you Elena... I don't mean it this way and I am really sorry for you, but sometimes you're lucky not to have your parents anymore. I smirmed a little. "Yeah, that is something I don't miss." She chuckled and leaned against me. Thanks for being there for me. I never really had a friend to do these kind of things. I smiled. "That is where friends are for... you know what we are going to do?" She frowned and shook her head. "We're going to the kitchen, we get some ice cream and chocolate, put on a bad comedy movie on Netflix and just chill until you feel happy again." She laughed. That sounds like a plan. You go choose the movie... She gave me the remote of her tv after putting it on Netflix. I'll get the food. She walked out and I scrolled through the movie. Elena... can I come in? Ethan's voice came from behind the door. "Sure... I think." I said and he walked in. Hey... I just wanted to say... thank you for being there for Emma. Our family isn't the most perfect one. "It's fine Ethan... she is my friend. And so are you." Thanks Elena... "No worries." I said, he chuckled and suddenly I was crushed into a tight hug. I blinked, but then hugged him back. It was weird... but I felt safe, really safe. It was over too soon as he pulled back, smiled and walked out of the room. I sat back down, waiting for Emma to come back. You're all red... what happened? She blinked when she saw me. "N-nothing at all!!" I said quickly, it made her raise her eyebrows though she didn't continue. I discovered some ben & Jerry in the freezer. "Oh! That's even better than normal ice cream!" I grinned, so did Emma. Isn't it? We got comfortable on the floor with a lot of pillows, the ice cream and the movie. It was one of the best nights I had ever had. I have to admit, in the UK I hadn't had a real friend. True, there were girls in my class who I sat next to, but I would never have done things like this with them. It felt just so... normal and great. 3.5 hours later we had finished two movies AND two buckets of ice cream. I really needed that! Emma laid back, smiling and with her eyes closed. I looked at my watch, geez it was already 10 PM. "I totally forgot the time..." I took out my phone and turned it back on. I didn't realize then it had been a bad idea to turn it off in the first place. I frowned when notifications kept coming in. 2 missed calls from Monroe, 1 from Rosalee and 12 from Nick! And then the messages... JULIETTE IS IN THE HOSPITAL, YOU HAVE TO COME... That was the first. ELENA, I MEAN IT! COME TO THE HOSPITAL! JULIETTE IS IN A COMA AND ADALIND IS PROBABLY INVOLVED IN THIS! Second one... THEY SEND ME HOME, JUST PICK UP THE DAMN PHONE ELENA, I HAVE TO KNOW IF YOU ARE OKAY! Third one... "I have to go home... Nick's girlfriend is in the hospital, she fell into a coma. I have to hear what happened..." Of course, I'll see you Monday. "Thanks Ems..." I hugged her and quickly ran to my car, driving home.
