Chapter 21

A/N: Hey everyone! Just a small note, I know that in this chapter there is not a lot of action. Just bear with me for a second, I had a small writer's block. But I promise you, the next chapter will be a Christmas special and after that the action will come back! :D 

I had to stay in the hospital for three days, and in that time I was never really alone. Ethan was there most of the time when he didn't have school and Emma came when she could. She also recorded the lessons I missed, so I was grateful. Aiden and Matthew came as well, and I had to make up a story quickly. Dean was there too once, he was relieved I was okay. Monroe and Rosalee, who also made me promise never to do that again. Juliette, who got tears in her eyes when she saw me. Hank, who chuckled I was even more reckless than Nick. Even captain Renard came and I got a call from my father. God knows how he figured out, but at least he sounded relieved. And Nick... he came as soon as he was off, and stayed until midnight. The minute I left, the nurses made me promise to take it easy the next couple of days, but they were sure I would be fine. My recovery had gone fast, even faster than possible. It made me wonder if something was wrong with me, but on the other hand... what wasn't wrong with me? Nick drove me home, and I was happy to be back. Juliette smiled and hugged me. I got your favourite. I looked towards the table and I saw Chinese food waiting for us, I grinned. I am sure you are done with the hospital food right? I giggled. "You have no idea..." I agreed. We laughed and began dinner. We have to find the right Christmas tree soon. Juliette said while taking a bite of her food. I nodded, it was already December. But first... Nick grinned at me. We have a birthday. I grinned back. Today was the 28th of November today, my birthday was the 1st of December. Juliette giggled. Of course, the famous 21th birthday. "Please don't make a big, I don't need a party." I said, warning them. Nick's grin said enough though, I sighed. "And you already arranged it..." I muttered softly. Your first birthday here, we have to celebrate that! I stared at him for a second. "Emma helped you." Not only her. Ethan, Dean, Matthew and Aiden as well. I groaned. "I am so gonna kill them all..."

Emma and Matthew dragged Aiden and me to the mall to go shopping on Friday, it was the day before my birthday. You two are unbelievable! I groaned while Emma threw me another dress. Never waste an opportunity to go shopping darling. She said with a fake southern accent. Besides, I can't let you go home just yet, Juliette and Ethan are busy with the final things. And be glad I came with you. I can pay for this store. She stuck her tongue out at me, I rolled my eyes. "You know I hate it when you pay for me." Just see it as a thank you. She said. "You being here beside me is enough Em." I muttered before disappearing into the changing room. Emma was stubborn, but she definitely knew what I liked and what suited me. "Wow Em, this one is beautiful!" I looked at myself in the mirror. It was simple just like an overgrown t-shirt with short sleeves, but it stuck close to my body and a beautiful red-orange colour. With your hair straightened you will look gorgeous. Emma squealed. We're so gonna buy this. I put my own clothes back on and walked with her to the checkout. "If I find out you went over the top with that party Emma, I will kill you." I growled. Relax, I know you wouldn't have liked that. We met with the boys again and went to Starbucks. What are your plans for Christmas Elena? Aiden asked. I thought about that "I am not sure... I guess the 25th will be a family dinner with Nick and Juliette... and the 26th is still free. Why?" He smiled. Matthew, Emma, Ethan and I have been thinking... We could go out and party the 26th. And mom and dad wanted to invite you for dinner at our place as well. I blinked. "Well, I guess that is fine." Don't you have Christmas stuff with your dad? I made a face. "No, thank god. Not that I don't want to... it is all just so..." Fresh? Emma finished for me and I nodded. I didn't tell them about my weird encounter with Eric during my time in coma, because it sounded crazy. It could have been my mind. Not that it mattered to me, I got a second chance to say goodbye. All right, time to go. I blinked, I had so been in thoughts I didn't realize Emma already finished up. Come on, they are all waiting for us.

A package arrived for you today. Nick said, looking at me. Did you order anything? I frowned and shook my head. "Not that I know of." Maybe it got the wrong address... Juliette said. "Maybe." I said, thinking. "Or Emma ordered something online, she is a shopaholic." I grinned again, thinking about that. After dinner Nick gave me the box, it was long and small... definitely a box for clothing. The address was the same, and it could have been from Emma... if the box didn't come from Vienna instead. I sighed deeply. "What the hell..." I muttered softly and opened it. The box contained a pair of beautiful black heels, and an even more beautiful long red dress. I sighed deeply. Why...? Then I saw the letter on top of it. I opened it and recognized the curly letters. Dear daughter... First of all I would like to congratulate you with your birthday. I know I am a little bit early, but sending two letters is a little bit much don't you think? 21 is a beautiful age, and I hope you enjoy your birthday with your other family and friends. Now for the present, Viktor and I are going to visit Portland between Christmas and New Year. On the 29th we are holding a big banquet in hotel DeLuxe. We would like to invite you for this evening, though it is not a request. It is your duty to join us. Don't worry, someone will pick you up and bring you home. I will contact you beforehand. Wear these clothes. Yours sincerely, Frederic Renard. I groaned and passed the letter to Nick. He read it quickly. I don't think you can refuse this one Elena. He said and I groaned. "I know..."

The next day I woke up by a knock on my door. "What?" I muttered. The door swung open and Emma jumped in. Happy birthday Elena! She pulled me into a tight hug and I groaned, I still wasn't awake. "Thanks Em, but you're a little early." She grinned. It doesn't matter, we have stuff to do. Now go get dressed. Nick and Juliette are already gone, preparing everything. She waited for me and then immediately pulled me out of the house when I was finished. "It is Saturday morning... 9 am, can't I just sleep in?" I complained while she drove us somewhere. No... She said immediately. Ethan and Nick are started with the preparations so you can't stay there. I crossed my arms and leaned back in the chair. Even though, what do you want to do about it? Cut my head off? She laughed, and I started to smile a little at well. Don't worry, we're gonna have a girl's day and after dinner we'll start to get ready. I promised your brother we would be back around 7. She drove us into the city and we parked the car close to a beauty salon. "You got to be kidding me..." I muttered but she pulled me inside. She hadn't been kidding, we stayed in the salon for almost 5 hours. After a very long massage, people started to work with my face and my nails. They cut my hair a little and straightened it... they did my make-up. Emma had the same thing and even though I wasn't a girly girl, we had a lot of fun. After everything was done, we went to eat dinner in a cute Mexican restaurant and then we went back to her house, it was time to get dressed. The dress was still as beautiful as I remembered. It was made for you. We walked out, and I was surprised I didn't see Richard or Lorena. "Where are your parents?" I asked and she looked at me like I was crazy. At your house of course. I rolled my eyes and we drove back home. The moment I opened the door, someone set two small confetti cannons off. Happy birthday Elena!! The guests said, Nick and Juliette stood in the front with a big smile. Present were also Ethan and his parents, Hank, Aiden and Matthew, Dean and the captain. I smiled brightly. "Thank you... all of you." I saw a lot of balloons, the whole ceiling was full of it. Nick stepped forward as first and he hugged me tightly. It felt so safe. I got you something. He smiled and gave me a small package, it looked like some kind of jewellery box. From mom and me. I blinked. "You contacted mom?" I asked and he nodded. She is sorry she can't come, but she send this. I unwrapped it, the moment I saw it tears appeared in my eyes. It was a bracelet, one I recognized. It was hers, simple silver but with a blue gem. It belonged to our grandmother who gave it to her when she was 21. She wanted you to have it now. I leaned against his chest, this was beautiful. Aiden and Matthew gave me a promise, we would go for dinner with the four of us, and they would pay. I added with a grin that it was in their advantage as well, and Aiden chuckled. Why do you think we thought of it? Dean gave me a keychain with little sword on it and I chuckled. Richard and Lorena gave me a watch, the same Emma had and which I liked very much. Hank and the captain gave me an internship for my graduation year, and although it still took some years, I was relieved I already had one. And Ethan... his present was a weekend for just the two of us in Los Angeles, and I was already forward to it. Juliette passed all of us some champagne. Cheers to the birthday girl... who from now on is officially a grown-up. She grinned at Nick, which rolled his eyes at her. It made me giggle. To Elena! The others said and we all took a sip. I was relieved, this was my first birthday in a few years which was normal.
