I woke up in a luxurious room with an enormous headache. I groaned softly and stood up, everything was spinning. "Where am I?" I muttered softly, my memory was cloudy. Then it hit me. "SHIT!" I cursed and sprinted to the door. Locked... of course. No no no no no, I couldn't be in Vienna. I started slamming on the door. "Let me out!" After some time a man opened the door. Your highness... I must ask you to stay in your room. "Like hell I am..." I punched the man in his face and he woged, a hundjäger. Right... most Verrat were hundjägers, vicious hound dog-like Wesen. He growled at me and I scoffed. "Very impressive." I muttered again and kicked him right in his sensitive area. He fell down and I just ran. Goddamn it... where is the stupid exit? I could hear some followers behind me, but it wasn't an option to hide. Those guys would smell me anyway. I ran into a big hallway, and blinked when I saw small woman with blond hair who stared at me. I recognized her just by the description Nick had given me... Adalind Schade. She started to smile at me. Hallo, kann ich dir helfen? My German wasn't perfect, but I could understand that. So translation: Hello, can I help you. I smiled and stepped closer to her. "Actually... you can." I stopped in front of her and smiled. She smiled back. With what? My smile faded and I smacked her in the face. "By getting the hell out of my face if you love your life!" She stumbled back. What is your problem?! I wanted to launch for her again, but suddenly my arms were pulled back, I was pressed against someone's chest AND surrounded by ten Verrat agents... behind them was Eric as well. I clenched my fists when I saw him. Though he didn't look at me at first, he looked at Adalind. Are you all right? He asked her and she stroke her cheek where I had hit her. Yes, I am fine. But why did you do that? She looked at me with angry eyes and I glared back. "That was for putting my brother's girlfriend into a coma you bitch! She could have died!" She stared at me and Eric chuckled. The grimm who took your powers has a little half-sister, isn't that cute? He looked at me. But why is she here then? Adalind asked. Because she is my sister too. Eric said, smiling at me. "I am NOT your sister!" I hissed at him. "Maybe by blood, but I'll always hate you." He chuckled again. I am sure you will. But I am afraid we can't let you leave. I scoffed. "Let me get something clear... your father forced himself onto my mother to create a baby, me. So give me one reason why I should stay." You're a princess of the Kronenberg family Elena, your place is here. He said reasonable and I rolled my eyes. "I am a bastard..." I said. No, you're legitimized. Eric disagreed. Let's talk somewhere more comfortable. He turned to Adalind and smiled. I'll see you tomorrow again. She nodded and walked away, glancing at me for a last time. I glared back. Come on, I want to show you something. Eric motioned the Verrat agent to let go of me as he grabbed my arm and pulled me after him. I growled and resisted. "Let me go you psychopath..." He stopped and took a strong hold on both my arms. Listen sweetheart... you are in no position to be rebellious. Just listen to us and your family and friends won't be harmed... especially your brother. Or maybe we would begin with your best friend... her name is Emma right? My blood started to boil when he mentioned Emma's name. "Don't you dare hurt her..." I growled. I won't, as long as you behave. I looked in his eyes. Maybe it was grimm ability, but I had always been good at reading people. I could see when people were telling the truth, and Eric WAS telling the truth. He would hurt the people I loved if I didn't stop. I exhaled and stopped resisting. Now we're getting somewhere. He lead me through hallways to some sort of meeting room. Looking out of the window, it was already dark. "How long have I been out?!" I was surprised. A little bit more than a day I believe. Eric walked to the fire and looked at it. "So? I am a prisoner now?" I asked. A prisoner is such an ugly world. You're a guest... you just can't leave the palace grounds alone. "That is the same definition as a prisoner." I growled. You belong here. He said again. "You already said that..." I said angrily. All that anger is not good for you. I was shocked... he didn't just say that. "Yeah well, that happens when you kidnap someone!" You belong with us Elena, you're a royal. "Even when you keep telling me, it won't convince me." I said. I would start to if I were you. I scoffed. "Do you really think Nick isn't already looking for me? He will find me." Eric smiled. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Tell me sweet sister, what is our last name? "Your last name." I corrected him. "Renard, you told me yourself." He nodded. Well, doesn't that name sound familiar to you? He asked and I frowned. "Why would it..." Then it hit me. "Captain Renard..." I whispered and Eric nodded with a grin. Sean Renard, my bastard half-brother. His mother was one of the mistresses of my father. Though he would never be legitimized. "And why not?" I challenged him. "Why legitimize me and not him?" Because his mother, the whore, is an hexenbiest. I blinked. "No way..." I said. He is only half, but that is bad enough. But now you see why your brother will never find you. Sean is dangerous and determined, but he would never attack us, he is too clever for that. He turned back to me. We need the keys Elena, it is essential for our survival. I blinked. "What keys?" I asked and Eric shove a picture to me. I picked it up and froze. It was a picture of a similar key of the one aunt Marie had given to Nick and me when she died. The seven keys are keys that belonged to seven knights who were your ancestors, the ancestors of the grimms. The knights worked for us in the twelfth century. After sacking Constantinople in the Fourth Crusade, they took a treasure back but decided not to give it to us. Instead, they made a map on the keys, and each knight took a key. He turned to the window. When put together, they reveal the location of the treasure and we can rule the world again. "What kind of treasure is it?" I asked. Nobody knows... it could be the prophet Muhammad's sword, the secret of alchemy, the secret to immortality, or the nails used in the crucifixion of Jesus, along with possibly even some pieces of the Cross itself. He turned back to me and I stared at him. "And why exactly would I help you?" I asked. "For your information, I don't like dictators and this sounds exactly like that." If you don't help us, we'll make sure your loved ones won't survive... A new voice came from my back and I looked back. An man around 55... 60... stood behind us. He had a small beard and was somewhat overweight. Father... Eric said and I took a deep breath. This was the king... my father. He looked me up and down and I glared back. You look exactly like your mother... the same fire in your eyes. I loved that about her. He walked past me. I must apologize for the rude way how we had to bring you here. "And you keep me as a prisoner." I added with clutched teeth. Your place is here daughter... He turned to Eric. "Arrange the press, let Erica arrange the party. Tomorrow we'll let the whole world know that our beloved princess has returned." Eric nodded and walked out of the room. Frankly I felt like I wanted to run after him, for some reason he felt safer than the man in front of me. "So you're going to rub my brother right in the face where I am..." I mocked. "That isn't very smart." Who says I am? He asked. So this is how it is gonna go... you're going to call my son Sean Renard, you'll tell him everything is fine, that you want to be here and that there is no need for them to look for you. I crossed my arms. "And why would I do that if it means giving up my freedom? I don't want to be here if I didn't make that clear..." I said angrily. You can walk out here free... but your loved ones won't. I heard what Adalind Schade did to your brother's girlfriend. I clenched my fists. "You're blackmailing me..." If that is how you want to call it. I frowned. "So actually you give me a choice... I can stay here as a prisoner and behave so my loved ones will be safe... or I can be selfish, go home and they will be hurt." Exactly... He didn't even look sorry for it. Damn... I was trapped now. Most of the time you heard prisoners were given this choice, and I had always wondered why they didn't try to escape. But now I knew... the knowing fact that you would be the reason why they got hurt – I had no doubt both the king or Eric would do that – kept you here. I closed my eyes, sighing. It broke my heart to say it. "Fine... I'll stay and I will behave..." I didn't expect less of a daughter of mine. I glared at him. "That still doesn't mean that I want to be here." Of course... I'll arrange Sean's phone number for you. He dug his phone out of his pocket. "Wait..." I said and he turned back. I want to call Nick as well... and Emma and Ethan. I want to tell them myself. He seemed to think about it for a while. Very well... I hope you remember their numbers. I nodded and after a while he gave his phone to me, it was already calling. I sighed deeply and laid it against my ear. Sean Renard... Captain Renard's voice was weary. "Captain Renard... this is Elena Burkhardt..." I could almost hear him sit straight. Elena, where are you? Your brother is getting worried. "I am in Vienna..." Vienna... but what are you doing... "I am with my family at the moment. Our family I have to say." I heard him suck in a breath. You... "Yes, I just found out who my father was." I glanced at the king. "I want to get to know him better, so I went here." You can be honest with me Elena, if he is holding you captive. "He is not. Please, I just want to know him... and my brother." If that is what you want... Captain Renard sounded doubtful. But I should call your brother if I were you. "I will... thank you captain Renard." I hung and glared at the king again. You did well... "Can I have some privacy when I call my brother?" He thought about that. Remember I will know it when you give him information. I rolled my eyes. "I won't." hmm... The king just grunted and walked away. I called Nick. Nick Burkhardt... He took it after a second and my heart hurt, he sounded tired. "Nick..." I almost couldn't supress my tears when I heard his voice. Elena! Where are you?!! I could hear the relief in his voice. "I-I am in Vienna." I whispered. Vienna... but why. He then stopped. They took you. "No, they..." But Nick had guessed it, because he cut me off. I'll come and get you, this is kidnapping. "Nick please, you can't!" And why not? He growled. "Because I promised them I would stay." You... why? "I can't tell you, but please, don't come for me." They threatened you right? He guessed it again. Elena, they will hurt you. "There is no other option!" I said firmly. "I don't want you to get hurt." I just can't leave you there all alone. "You have no choice. I don't want you to come here. Who knows what they will do to you? Besides, you have to take care of Juliette." But... "No buts, I have to do this. And I promise you I will come home." I breathed out. "Someday..." I could almost hear him think. He wanted to go against me, but he knew it was no use. I love you Elena... He voice sounded broken, which resulted me in almost crying again. "I love you too..." I hung and slumped down against the wall, now letting the tears go. Even though I wanted to be strong, I didn't see a way out of this
