We arrived at Monroe's house, the captain right behind us. When they got out, he immediately glared at us. Would someone please tell me what the hell just happened? Nick gave him the badge. This just happened. The captain took it. What is this? He asked. He was in your building, asking about Adalind and the baby. Mom explained. The guard said she was there and that is when he sent in the two hundjäger. The captain frowned. An FBI agent working with the Verrat. That is not good. "Let's just get inside." I said. I am not going anywhere until I know where I am going. Adalind said. "We're just trying to keep you and your baby safe." I said, laying a hand on her arm and I gave her a reassuring smile. I just want to know where I am. She said softly. That is the point. Mom said. If you don't know where you are they don't know where to look for you. Suddenly the baby squealed and we all looked towards her. A locket drifted from my mother's pocket into the air, going towards the baby. She grabbed it and pulled it close, her eyes glowing purple. She laughed and fell back asleep. I blinked. "Wow..." I muttered. No one said anything and Nick turned towards the door, knocking. Monroe opened it, quickly letting us in. "We really appreciate you doing this." I said and Nick nodded. Mom was just looking around, taking everything in. Me too. The captain said. "Adalind, this is Monroe and Rosalee." I introduced quickly. Rosalee smiled at Adalind, then looked towards the baby. She is beautiful. Come on in, let's get you settled. She let Adalind go first, Renard went after her and after a glance at Nick I followed as well. I sat down with Adalind on the couch as Renard walked towards the kitchen. "Shall I take her over for a while?" I asked her, she hesitated a little. "You know I won't harm her." She nodded and gave the baby to me. I smiled, taking her and rocking her gently. She smiled at me and because of that my smile grew. She was so cute. "We need to get moving..." Nick said to me as he walked to the kitchen, saying the same there. We're leaving. Hesitantly I gave the baby back to Adalind. All of you? Said Adalind, looking panicked. The captain knelt down in front of her. It is better if you stay with them alone. There is no other way. He stood up and Nick and he walked out, mom waited for me. As I walked after them, Adalind stopped me. Can't you stay Elena? I don't want to be alone. "I will be back as soon as I can." I promised her. "But the royals will suspect that you're with me, because they know you trust me." I hugged Adalind softly. She hugged back and I smiled. Looking at the baby I gave her a kiss on the forehead. "And you little one, look after your mother for me." She cooed and I interpreted that as a yes. My mother walked in, looking towards the baby. Adalind say it. Do you want your necklace back? She asked. Mom seemed to snap out of a moment. Uh... no. no, no. Let her keep it. We walked out. We need to deal with our FBI friend. Nick said. You'll be able to figure out where he lives right? My mother asked. Yeah, we can do that. The captain said. The biggest mistake Adalind made was coming to you. Mom said to him. As long as you have your child, you'll be vulnerable. The rest of your live. And so will she. "There is nothing we can do about it now." I said firmly. "Let's just think of the next step." We have a plan. Nick said.
I didn't like the plan, but what choice did I have. It didn't take long for the captain to find agent Steward's address. We sneaked in, he was muttering to himself. What am I going to tell them? They are going to kill me. My mother walked in first. The royals? She asked and the man turned around, growled and woged. Hundjäger... of course he was. They probably will. Nick said. And could you really blame them? The captain added. Agent Steward made a decision, lunching for the captain who knocked him down with a swift motion. I couldn't... He said. Nick and I tied the men to chair, making sure he wasn't going to get loose soon. The captain slapped his cheeks. Weston, wake up. He did, blinking. I just stood next to my mother, Nick and the captain in front of him. Now why don't you tell me how the royals got a federal agent to work for them. Agent Steward snorted. Why? Am I supposed to be scared? The captain placed his hands in his pockets. You really want to play that game? He asked. Do you see the white light? Steward said mockingly. What white light? The captain asked. You're a dead man. Steward said. And you don't even know it. The captain punched him right in the face, Steward grunted. Don't threaten me. The captain said. Not after trying to kill me, that is bad manners. He punched Steward again. Now do you see white lights or just colour? Last number to have called you was from Vienna. Who was that from? Steward remained silent. I can just call it for you. The captain said, pressing the button as the line started to ring. I am sure they would love to hear from me on your phone. Steward looked desperate. Turn it off. The captain did. Who was it? He asked again. Steward remained silent. Let's get this over with. The captain said. He snarled and woged. His half zauberbiest form was... terrifying. He grabbed the man by his neck and squeezed. Verrat... Steward said hoarsely. Who in the Verrat? My mother asked. Ruspoli... was the answer and I sucked in a breath. And where is Ruspoli now? The captain asked. You're gonna wanna answer that. Nick said. Just kill him. My mother said. Steward's eyes flicked to me. P-Princess... I rose one eyebrow, not saying anything. He turned back to Renard. He is on his way here. The captain woged back and let go. Alone? He asked. I don't think so. Steward said. Is Viktor with him? My heart clenched a little tighter hearing his name. Yes... Steward said and Nick's eyes flicked to me for a second. All they want is the baby. Steward continued. Just give it up and your problems go away. The captain snorted. I am not giving anything up and your problems have just begun. Nick took a step closer. Here is how it is gonna work. He said. You're gonna be arrested for the attempted assassination of a police captain. We can tie you to the two men who were killed. Not to mention. The captain added. You're on the payroll of the royals. FBI forensics will pull financial records and make that connection, and that is prison time. Or, more likely, death by royals. Steward glared. What do you want from me? You're going to deliver a message. My mother said. What do you want me to tell them? Nick took a piece of paper out of his pocket. Where the baby is. He gave it to Steward. You're going to give them the baby? The captain stared him down. Just deliver the message. He gave the phone back and we walked out. This better work. Nick said. It will work. The captain promised. He is more afraid of them than he is of us. We went home. I'm going to call Hank. Nick said. We informed Hank the minute we were home. He wasn't very happy Adalind was back, let alone we had to help her. And who could blame him? She tried to kill him. My instinct was to go and see her, but with the plan that was impossible. Mom went instead. Do you really think the prince is coming to Portland? Hank asked. "Yes..." I said, not looking up from my phone. I texted Emma about everything, Ethan already sat next to me on the couch. He laid his hand on my knee reassuringly. I shook my head. Let's just go to sleep, tomorrow will be tough. We had agreed Ethan and I would stay here. Going back to my room, I immediately fell asleep, yet my dreams were plagued by nightmares.
