New Jobs
JayceIt was morning, and I enjoyed today's ration for breakfast. Homemade soup, I must say before the zombies I wasn't a big fan of soups, but now, this was the best soup I have ever had.
I sat at one of the bench's in the marketplace, enjoying the soup, a man walked over to me holding a soup and pointed to the seat across from me.
"This seat taken?" He asked.
I shook my head.
He sat down and began eating his soup.
"Your new here right?" He asked.
I nodded my head.
"Jayce" I said holding out my hand to shake his.
"Jerry" He replied.
I remember who he was now, we passed his tent yesterday.
"The surgeon?" I asked.
He nodded his head. "One of the same" He answered.
I continued eating my soup, the reason I was here and not waiting around at the tents is because, mainly I was hungry, but also because Edwin was going to tell us our jobs today and I wanted to be out somewhere where he would find me.
"So, has Eddy told you your new job yet?" He asked.
I shook my head. "Not yet, no" I Replied.
He smirked, clearly thinking back to another time. "I remember when Ace brought me back here, Eddy knew of my skills and he made me one of the doctors here"
I tilted my head. "One Of? Is there other doctors" I asked.
He took a long sip of his soup and answered sadly "There was, we had a accident last week, we lost a bunch of people"
I nodded my head.
"Is that what happened to Ace's Dad"
He nodded his head.
"Yeah, Tomas use to lead this place, until he was killed by the undead, Eddie was his best friend so he assumed command" He spoke sadly.
Ace walked over to us and placed his hands on his hips.
"How's the soup ladies?" He asked.
I noticed he had his hood down this morning, he had long side burns down the side of his face. And deep brown eyes.
"Great!" I replied.
"Good, well finish up, cause Mr. Steal Yo wanted me to show you a few things" He said.
I finished up my soup and followed Ace away.
"Bye Jerry" I waved.
He waved back and I followed Ace towards the gate.
...
"Where are we going?" I asked him.
Ace and I were outside of the camp now, we both had a pistol and I had my pickaxe, while he brought a crowbar.
"Edwin gave you your new job, he wants you to be a scavenger" He said giving me a smirk and looking to see my reaction.
I'm sure he expected me to scream like a little girl, but instead I just tried to help myself understand what a scavenger was.
"So, like Charity and her group?" I asked. Thinking back to the empty campsite yesterday.
He tilted his head as we walked further down the road.
