The Return
JayceI sat in the market eating dinner with Jerry and Max, it was canned beans and a side of home grown corn on the cob.
"So, did Kiera tell you her new job?" Max asked me scooping up a spoonful of beans.
I shook my head.
"Well, apparently Edwin is making her his apprentice, so one day she'll take over the church!" Max said smiling.
Jerry looked to Max confused.
"You sure it wasn't Diana? I mean, Kiera has been here for a few days, you sure Edwin would give her that job so quickly?" He asked.
I just tried to enjoy my beans.
"I was surprised too, but apparently Edwin put alot of trust into her!" Max said.
Jerry shook his head.
"That can't be right"
But I corrected him.
"Honestly, I could see it, Her brother and her ran a camp by themselves for who knows how long, plus she's had so many jobs that she has experience with a little bit of everything" I said
"HEY! YOU THREE GET OVER HERE!" I heard Damon yell from the main gate to us.
Max, Jerry and I got up and ran over to Damon who stood on top of the gate.
"What is it?" I asked from the bottom of the ladder climbing up.
When I reached the top he just pointed to a group a people standing outside the gate.
I saw many familiar faces standing on the road outside the gate.
I saw the torn and scratched face of Ryder, his face was drenched in sweat. He had his ppsh-41 assualt rifle around his back and a empty hunting knife hostler.
Next to Ryder was Maya, they were holding hands as they approched the gate, and she had her rifle around her back, and she too looked tired and beat up.
Behind them was the leather suited Dante, who was sweating through his jacket, his crossbow was swung around his back as he poured a bottle of water on his face.
Next to Dante was Bobby, readjusting his goggles and winter hat, he held a ak-47 in his hands, and his face was swollen as shit.
All and all, the four of them looked like shit.
A group of six or seven people were on a truck and drove through the gate.
A dog ran over to Ryder as he picked it up and pet it, Maya also pet the dogs head.
I looked at the dog and regonaized it, I wasn't sure from where but I knew it.
I watched as a women walked over to the dog and began petting it as well.
The women turned to look up to me after Ryder pointed to me.
They all looked up to me and smiled.
"Hey Jayce" my sister spoke to me.
I nearly fell off the gate as I jumped down the ladder and ran out of the gate.
I grabbed Cassi and began crying into her shoulder.
I couldn't believe she survived all of this, all by guilt for not trying to look for her and my parent washed away as I was holding her in my arms.
"Jeez, we're here to you know" Dante laughed.
I looked to Dante, Bobby and Maya, and smiled.
"It's good to see you guys!" I looked around the group again as if searching for someone.
