Michael Skeleton
I sat in my superiors office, Major Smith. I waited for him to arrive, he was retiring today from his position at Fort Black and he wanted to speak to me.

Maria would be happy if I got a promotion, but I knew the girls wouldn't be.

Maria and I have had our issues but at the end of the day we want to stay together for the girls sake, and try to figure it out as we do love each other still, it's just hard with me hardly home, hopefully that'll change now that I've serviced my time as a Soilder.

Major Smith opened his office door and walked in. I stood up and slauted to him.

"Sir!" I spoke.

"At ease Commander, please sit down" Major Smith spoke.

I sat down and Smith started checking stuff off on a check board.

"Alright, Micheal, let's be real here I'm promoting you to Major rank at Fort Black"

I wanted to smile and celebrate, but instead I kept my cool, I'd wait to tell Maria before I celebrated.

"Who will be my commander?" I asked.

I was Smith's Commander at Fort Black for the past two years after I got back from the War.

"We are also promoting lieutenant Faraway to Commander, she'll become your Commander if she accepts" Smith answered.

"I'll take it your accepting the role of Major?" Smith asked.

I nodded.

"Yes sir"

"Alright, there's some papers we need to sign to make it legitimate, but after that your free to go home for the day and your'll start your role Monday"

I signed the papers he handed to me and went home.

My drive home was long, but it seem quick considering how excited I was to tell Maria the good news. Although I've been stationed at Fort Black for the last two years, and it's a relatively close drive home, I am required to full time live at the station. Now that I was Major however I got more vacation days to visit my family.

I pulled into the driveway just as the sun was going down and already I saw two of my little girls in the driveway.

Michelle who was six, was playing with water balloons on the front lawn with Maya who was four.

Maya got a large water balloon to the face as they saw me pull in.

"Dad!" They both shouted running over to me.

I got out of the car, closed the door and picked them both up in a hug.

I kissed them both on the head as I walked towards the front door.

"My little girls, I missed you so much"

The front door opened, and there stood my wife Maria, holding our little baby daughter Meredith.

I put Maya and Michelle down and walked over to Maria.

"And my big girl I missed her too" I spoke kissing Maria on the lips.

Michelle covered her eyes and shouted.

"Ewww"

Maya laughed.

I broke off the kiss and rubbed Meredith's head, then kissed it.

"How's Mere doing? She feeling any better?" I asked.

Meredith recently got a cold, which is usual for babies but I still thought it was worth asking.

Maria nodded.
