From the train station, I ordered a car to drop us off at Barbra's parents beautiful and massive home. It was more a mansion in my eyes with several floors with large windows, a perfectly landscaped lawn and a three-car garage. It was enough to make the apartment look like an icky, mud puddle. I thanked the driver and sent them on their way before going up to the front door to ring the doorbell. Phil joined beside me, silent as a panther, as we waited for someone to open it up. In no time at all, an old woman reveals herself. Her silvery hair was elegantly braided into two, thick chords, which draped over each shoulder, and any loose strands were pinned back by baby-blue clips that match her stern eyes.
It was hard not to recognize Amy, even though I haven't been here in a long time. She's the maid here, made obvious by her dark, yet professional attire. Barb's folks are busy people, so they have cooks, maids and butlers that live with them and take care of the place. They have about one or two of each. Guess you need to fill all that empty space somehow, but they treated their staff very well, much like family. I always found it nice.
This woman, however, scares me. She always makes me feel like she'd whack me with a wooden spoon if I were to do a single thing wrong. I was never rowdy company, but I was always extra sure to show good manners with Amy. Otherwise, I think she'd never let me inside. I pushed a crooked smile to my lips and greeted her respectfully.
"Good evening, Amy. I just came by to—"
"Y/N!!!" The shouting that came from behind the old woman startled me as a figure came barreling past the housekeeper to lock me in a tight embrace. I chuckled, hugging the ecstatic Barbra with half the enthusiasm she had, but I was still very happy to see her again. "I know it hasn't been that long, but it felt like forever since I've last seen you!"
