I sit in my car and dial Isaiah's number once more.
I sigh when it goes to voicemail. I get out my car and walk up to his front door.
His car is in the driveway so I know he's home.
I take a deep breath and knock on the door.
I fidget with the ring on my finger once more.
A minute later the door opens.
"Hel- Kaitlyn? What are you doing here?",he asks.
"I came to talk.",I say.
"About?",he says leaning against the door.
"Can I come in?",I ask trying not to be awkward but failing at it.
"Oh um yeah. Shit. Sorry I'm just shocked you're here.",he says opening the door wider for me.
I step inside and wait while he closes the door.
"Here take a seat.",he says leading me to the couch. He takes a seat beside me, his eyes darting to the ring.
He smiles a little and looks back up.
"So what do you want to talk about?",he asks.
I study his face before I begin. It's been awhile since I seen Isaiah and I realized I've missed him a lot.
In a friend type of way. Isaiah had always been around and it was strange that I hadn't seen him for so long.
"Kat?",he asks waving his hand in front of my face.
"Oh my bad. Sorry. ",I say shaking my head.
He laughs and the sound brings a smile to my face.
"It's alright. Just start when you're ready.",he says leaning back.
"I um well...you see I broke up with James.",I rush out.
Isaiah looks at me shocked.
"Oh Kat I'm sorry.",he says grabbing my hand. His finger runs over the ring.
"Yeah. I'm fine. It's just something happened that made me realize how much pain I caused to those who I was supposed to love and I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to abandon you. I was so selfish only thinking for myself. I just want closure. But most importantly I want you back. I want my friend back.",I say.
Isaiah stays silent during all of it, not interrupting me once. He leans back, taking in everything I said and drops my hand.
He stays silent for awhile. Occasionally his gaze will shift to my face and then to the ring on my hand and then back to the roof.
"Well uh I can't say I'm not a bit dissapointed. I mean I just got friendzoned by the girl of my dreams. But I understand and I accept your apology. And I would love nothing more than to fix our friendship Kaitlyn.",he says.
I smile. Whoever ended up with Isaiah would be one lucky girl.
He pulls me into his arms and hugs me tight.
"Thank you so much for sticking by my side through everything.",I say. Isaiah pulls back, studying my face.
"That's what friends are for.",he says and winks. I smile.
I look at the time on my watch and stand up.
"I have to go. I have something to do. But here I wanted to give you this back.",I say slipping the ring off my finger.
"Oh no Kat. I can't take that back.",he says.
"Oh Isaiah please. I don't deserve this. One day you'll meet a girl who truly deserves this and you must have this ring to give it to her.",I say trying to hand him the ring.
He shakes his head and doesn't take the ring.
"No Kat. I made a promise and that promise still stands. Even if it's not in romantic way it's still would mean a lot if you kept it.",he says.
I sigh but slip the ring on anyways.
"Okay then. I'll keep it.",I say. He smiles and walks me to the door.
"Hey Kat. I'm sorry if I'm being to nosy but is there someone else?",Isaiah asks leaning against the door.
I think back to Niko sitting at home waiting for me and smile.
"Yea there is.",I say.
Isaiah nods.
"And do you love him?",he asks.
"Yes, I do.",I say.
"Well make sure he's worth it. If he hurts you, call me and I'll beat his ass.",Isaiah says flexing.
"I'll make sure to do just that.",I say patting his chest.
"Goodbye Kaitlyn.",he says.
"Goodbye Isaiah.",I say and get into my car.
I call Niko.
"Hey baby. How did it go?"he asks.
"It went great babe. I'll be home soon.",I say.
"Two done. One to go.",he says.
I laugh and say goodbye. I hang up and lean my head against the steering wheel.
