Song of the Chapter: Sirens by DA & The Jones

"But time don't equal love / It just reminds you of."

= =

My heart raced knowing that the girl I still loved had agreed to come down. To be honest, I really didn't think I'd get this far. I thought maybe I would taste defeat and she would turn me away, but to our surprise, she agreed. How would I remain calm with her? How could I not let it slip from my mouth that she's crossed my mind plenty of times and that she has never stopped?

The phone in my pocket begins to vibrate and I look down at the caller and see it's Nora. Fuck! The front door opens and reveals Jasmine. I place my phone on silent before putting it back in my pocket and watched her locked the front door.

"Did I keep you waiting long?" Jasmine asks me as she sticks her hands in the pockets of her cream windbreaker. "I had to change."

"No. Not at all." I reply.
"So...." She says as she rocks back and forth on her feet.

"Lead us somewhere. You know the area better than I do. Take us anywhere." I say as we walk down the steps of her townhouse.

"It depends on what you want to do." Jasmine shrugs.

"You know what, it's cheat night. Take us to the best place for a late night snack."

"You called me down for a late night snack?"

"No. I called you down because you said you owe me and I'm trading that in. I want to talk about what's happened in our lives since the past four years. And I want to talk about the breakup." I tell her. "You said so yourself ..."

"I owe you. Yeah." Jasmine nods her head. "Alright. Come on. I know where to go. But since four years is a whole lot of catching up to do, we're going to other places."

"That's fine by me." I tell her.
"Oh - before I forget. Here." Jasmine removes the black hat from her head and she hands it to me.

"Why'd you give me this?" I ask.
"You're a world famous boxer. Yeah, it may be late, but trust me, you're gonna want a hat."

I place the hat over my curly hair and set it down on my head. "Thanks."

"Come on. This way." Jasmine says as she starts walking right. I follow her and take out my phone and see the missed call from Nora. I place my phone on Do Not Disturb and place it back into my pocket.

"What do you want to talk about first?" She asks me.

The wind hits us in a warm, yet cold, way. It breezes through her hair and pushes it behind her shoulders. It takes everything within me to keep from wanting to tuck her hair behind hear ears like I used to. My hands are placed in the front pockets of my pants and I hope to god I fight every urge within me that wants to hold her hand. We walk to the corner and Jasmine begins to hail a cab.

"What're we taking a cab for?" I ask her. "Isn't everything walking distance?"

"Not everything is walking distance. Plus, the sooner we get there, the more time we have to talk about us." Jasmine says. "And I mean what happened between us in the past four years. Not, like, us-us."

"I understood." I say. A cab about a block down flashes its headlights at Jasmine and she puts her arm down. Jasmine places her hands at her hips and turns to look at me. "Did you get taller? I feel like you got taller."

"I grew an inch, I suppose." I shrug.

"So what are you now? Six-four? Six-five?"

"Around there, give or take."
