Song of the Chapter: Cherry Wine - Hozier

"Her eyes and words are so icy / Oh, but she burns like rum on fire."

= =

I am looking at this girl whose heart I broke four years ago and I'm wondering how she is so strong. How can she be able to interview the person who told her they no longer love her?

"I hate you." Her words, so strong and full of venom, echo through my mind as they haunt me while I look at her lips. I think of how they moved while the strong words flew from them.

The way she looks is so different from the very first time I saw her. Of course, she isn't in her cheerleading uniform and we're not at a basketball game. But she looks so innocent.

A knock on the door breaks the trance she had me in and the door swings open. A man pops in and Jasmine smiles at him while they talk about an interview that was to take place for her during lunch. She's talking and scratching her head with the back of her pen cap and talks with the person. I admire her from afar where I stood by the window and look at her.

"Alright." Jasmine says with a nod. She gets up from her desk and tells me she'll be back and then disappears out the door with the person.

I take out my phone and see a text from Nora. Shit. I forgot about Nora. I tap onto the message and see another photo she had sent me - a left over thong of some random hookup I had with someone.

Oh fuck.

Before I can even reply, I see her name pop up along with her picture as she calls me. With a groan, I answer the call.

"What." I answer her like I always do.
"What do you want me to do with the thong?"

"I don't know, Nora. Just do to it what you do with the others."

"Oh." She says.

"Shit. Look, I didn't mean it like that." I say as I pinch the bridge of my nose.

"No. It's fine. We aren't together, there's no reason for me to act like some kind of housewife." Nora begins.

"Is this going to take long? I'm busy." I say.

"Sorry to bother your busy life. Hope you find some bimbo in Chicago to fuck." Nora says as she hangs up.

"Oh, you'd love that, won't you?" I say to myself as I watch the call end. I roll my eyes and place my phone in my pocket as I look back out the window.

What's funny to me is that I've been here before about two years ago and not once did I bother checking the last place she told me she would be. Really though, how dumb could I have been to completely miss out on the one spot she said she would be. And I should have picked up on Jack's lies. But then again, they were easy to pass off as true. Jack and I still kept our friendship, maybe Jasmine didn't want anything to do with me so bad that she got up and left. It was a smart move on Jack to bring in her mom saying where Jasmine would be.

Did she ever date anyone after me? Did she kiss anyone? Sleep with them? If they kissed her, I worried if they did it wrong. Jasmine never liked her face being grabbed during a kiss, she always liked the subtle hand behind your neck and the other hand tucking her hair behind her ear. Did they kiss her right? Did they love her right? Love. Did Jasmine ever love anyone after me? Was she loved right?

The door opens again and reveals Jasmine. She closes the door and heads back behind her desk.

"So what are we supposed do?" I ask her.
