Chapter 21

Alec's POV
I have been waiting outside this stupid door with Jace waiting for news on Madelaine and Izzy.

This is all my fault. They wouldn't have gone if it weren't for me. All of a sudden a voice interrupts my thought.

"I can feel that your blaming yourself. Stop." Jace says and I sigh shaking my head. " It is my fault Jace." I say bluntly and he shakes his head this time.

" It isn't your damn fault so stop blaming yourself. Madelaine would want that." he whispers the last part.

It is then that I realize just how much he was hurting. His last family could be dying right now.

I walk up to him placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. " She is going to be fine Jace. She is a fighter like you." I tell him and that's when he looks up at me.

For the first time in years I see tears roll down his face. " I-I can't lose her. She's all I have left. My mother. My father they're gone and now I might lose her to." he cries and I pull him in for a hug.

"Its okay Jace she will be fine I'm sure of it." I mumble and he nods. A comfortable silence falls upon us but is soon interrupted when the door opens.

Hodge walks out with a cloth wiping blood away from his hands. "Izzy is fully healed." he says but then takes a short pause. "The only problem is that I don't know if Madelaine is going to wake up or not. She lost so much blood at this point it is impossible to tell. I'm sure she will be fine she is a fighter." he says and gives us a sad glance before walking away.

Jace and I enter the room to see Izzy holding onto Madelaine's hand watching her unconscious body. "Hey Iz you feel good?" I say and she stands up dropping Madelaine's hand.

"Yeah I'm good I just wish Mads was to." she whispers sadly before fast walking out the room. I know she is hurting right now so I make a decision to go to her

I walk up to Jace who was sitting next to Madelaine doing what Izzy was previously doing. "I'm going to go after Izzy she needs the comfort." I tell Jace and he simply nods still watching his younger sibling.

I then turn to Madelaine placing a soft and gentle kiss to her forehead. "Wake up soon my love" I whisper before making my way to Isabelle's room.

When I make it there she is cuddling a pillow laying in her bed. She lifts her head hearing the door open and sits up when I walk in.

"Alec? What are you doing here?" she asks and I grab her pulling her close to me. "I know your hurting Iz. She is your parabatai." I say and Izzy lays her head on my shoulder.

"I-I should have been there for her. It should have been me." she cries and then suddenly she begins to cry. The sight breaks my heart. I hate seeing Izzy this way. I pull her even closer allowing her to cry in my chest

After a couple of minutes of crying. Izzy's sobs turn into soft snores. I reposition her to where she is laying on my lap and I can see her face. I gently stroke the hairs away from her face.

After a while I gently place Izzy down properly on her bed and place a blanket on top of her. Then i decide to go check up on Madelaine and Jace.

When I walk in Jace is asleep his head next to Madelaine and his hand still clutching tightly onto hers. I softly smile seeing the siblings.

I then decide to take a seat on the opposite side of Jace and I gently place my hand in Madelaine's face

"Im sorry I let this happen to you. I wasn't strong enough. I couldn't keep my promise of not letting anything happen to you. I'm so sorry." I whisper tears welling up in my own eyes looking down at the beautiful girl I fell in love with.

I hear a slight shuffle to see Jace moving his head to the other direction.

For the rest of the day I simply watch Madelaine and then occasionally check up on Izzy.

After a couple hours Jace wakes up and I am in the same position as before.

"Alec?" Jace am says interrupting my thoughts. "Yes?" I respond looking over at him. He looks sadly down at Madelaine.

"D-do you think if I had made it there quicker or had seen the attacker this wouldn't have happened." he says and it was then that I could literally feel the guilt weighing down on his shoulders.

"Remember when you told me not to blame myself. Now its my turn to tell you. Don't blame yourself. The only person here to blame is Valentine." I tell him

He angrily pushes up from his chair the chair going about 10 feet away. " I let that stupid bastard go and look at her. She is still not ok! I should have done something! I had to protect her!" he yells and I get up walking over to Jace

"Listen to me. Stop blaming yourself. Nothing you could have done would have stopped this from happening." I tell him and he sighs sliding down the wall behind him.

I decide to take a seat next to him. "I just wish it didn't happen to her. Or Izzy for that matter." he whispers and I nod in agreement staring at an unmoving and pale Madelaine

I don't care how long it takes please let her wake up.
