"GREAT!! NOW HAND THEM HERE!!" Quince then took all twenty of those hard-earned Wakestones and threw them right off the fucking ledge.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!!" I screamed, not fast enough to stop her.

"Master, wait! Look!" Following Monica's finger, I watched the Wakestones spiral around until they created a huge Rift gate.

"Oh. Wow. Uh... is that supposed to fix anything?" I asked hopefully.

"NOPE! NOW YOU HAVE TO JUMP IN AND CONFRONT THE REAL PROBLEM INSIDE!!"

"...The real problem."

"YEAH!"

"So we just grabbed twenty stupid Wakestones by jumping off ledges and fighting monsters so we could jump off another ledge and fight another monster?"

"YEAH!!!"

"One step further, Master. We're almost home free." Monica said, taking my hand.

I stepped forward and looked into the enormous Rift gate. I'd been to the Rift before, but this gate felt off. Like it lead somewhere I didn't want to be. As if the part of the Rift it would bring me to was going to be the last place I ever went. 'Nervous' doesn't describe it sufficiently, but I can't think of another word.

"Well... Gransys has a problem." I stepped up to the ledge, side-by-side with Monica. "And I am the Solution."

"That's the spirit, Master." Monica said encouragingly, squeezing my hand. Slowly, surely, and maybe for the last time, we dove in.
