Will You Still Love Me? (LukasxF.Jesse)

Lukas's PoV

I was going to meet Jesse Taber for a school project. I still couldn't wrap my mind around it. The most popular girl who was so kind and caring to everyone. And me, the quiet Lukas Porter, sitting at the back of the class and outshone by his siblings. And she had picked me to be her partner! I looked up to see the girl of my dreams making her way up on the hill, where there was a bench in the middle of nowhere.

"Hey Lukas," Jesse smiled, sitting beside me on the old, wooden park bench. I slid off my headphones and smiled up at her shyly. I was usually very reserved but Jesse had brought me out of my shell. "Whatcha listening to?" she asked, brushing a strand of her beautiful hair away from her face.

"Music? A song called Set On Fire. It's the remixed version." I replied immediately, hoping to get her interested in the song. I knew she loved remixes. Jesse raised her eyebrows and laughed. "You know I love music, right?" she held out a hand and I looked at it quizzically. "Can I listen to it?" she smiled, noticing my puzzled face.

When I didn't move, Jesse laughed and took my wrist to pull the headphones towards her. I blushed at her touch and finally, my brain decided to cooperate. But not like this. Without thinking, I brushed her hair behind her ears and put the headphones on for her.

Jesse looked up at me with wide eyes as the music started playing. Her lips parted a little as she listened, her beautiful green eyes on mine. The music was so loud, I could hear it but I knew Jesse didn't mind loud music. We've been friends for so long, and I knew everything she loved.

The way she tapped her pencil on
her teeth when she was thinking, her cute face scrunching up whenever I told her I liked a particular song she didn't. And her beautiful laughter when she played with my pet cat, Dewy. It sounded like a breath of the wind, cool and beautiful. Would you save me? I knew the beat drop was coming so I decided to do something really risky.

I leaned forwards a bit. When I heard the music coming to the beat drop, I closed my eyes and kissed her. Kissed her on the lips. I waited for a bit but sat back, embarrassed that she didn't kiss me back. She was still staring at me, her green eyes wide and her lips still parted. I felt my eyes and face burn and stood up, feeling heartbroken.

"Oh, oh god, Jesse... I-I'm so sorry." I stammered, as Jesse was still frozen. I turned to leave, trudging down the hill and feeling the tears on my cheeks slowly making their way to my chin. I squeezed my eyes shut and remembered a sentence from the song.

Which one of us cut the wire?
Ain't no bottom to this hole.
