Petra's PoV

I held the phone to my ear. "Hello?"
"Petra Ashley Johnson. Come back home this instant!" my mom yelled, making me flinch. "But-."

"No buts. Come back. Now." my mom ordered and ended the call. My principal silently took the phone and gestured for me to leave the office. I shivered, wondering what did I do to make my mother angry. Then I thought for awhile. Was it my phone? Could she have found it?

I had left my phone at home, because I was angry with myself and my mom and my life. Was she snooping through my stuff?! How could she? But I also knew what that meant. If she found my phone, she found out about Jesse.

I stood in front of the door, slightly scared. When my mom was angry, she could go crazy. Literally. Her patience should not be tested.. because last time she found out about Jesse, she had kicked me out of the house, taken away every single thing Jesse sent to me and basically made my life even more miserable. But I was still defying her, after two years have passed. Until now.

I pushed open the door to see my mom standing in the living room with my phone in her hand. I swallowed nervously. "Well?" she spoke up, tapping her foot on the carpet. It was as if she wanted me to confess the many sins I had made. "Uh.. how was your day?" I asked, making my mother glare at me.

"Petra Ashley Johnson.! Don't act innocent with me! I know what you've been doing BEHIND MY BACK." she yelled, throwing my phone on the floor. However, I felt nothing now, I felt defiant. "You're the one neglecting me. For five years, you've been treating me HORRIBLY. What kind of mother ARE YOU?!" I yelled back, clenching my fists.

"WHAT? Is this the same Jesse boy you've been texting two years ago?!" she exclaimed, gesturing to the phone. I folded my arms, "Yes. The very same. About time you found out, dear mother." I said coldly. "WHAT?" I refused to move as she picked up a glass bottle and threw it at me.

The glass shattered but all I could think about was that I had promised that I would see Jesse someday. And I wasn't going to break that promise no matter if I got hurt. I promised something to him, and I knew we would meet one day. "Is that all?" I asked, bending down to pick up my phone and examining it carefully.

The screen was completely dark, no matter how many times I turned it on, it was broken. "Get OUT you ungrateful girl! You're just like your father, an insult to the family!" my mom screamed, picking up another bottle of wine. I was done with this. I was done being a coward.

I immediately ran upstairs, grabbing my bag which I kept in case of an event like this and opened my window. It wasn't a big drop, since I lived in a house. I glanced behind me and saw the necklace which Jesse had sent to me before and I grabbed it quickly.

Swallowing, I climbed out of the window and landed in the garden, the glass on my feet pricking me, but adrenaline giving me strength. I was done letting her mistreat me.

I sat at the backporch of the school, silently picking out the glass fragments from my feet. I hated my mom. I hated her. Hate. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching me and I tensed up, wondering if it was the police. I had accidentally gotten my mom arrested once and she hated me for that. And ever since that incident, I've been fearful of the police. I never trusted them in the first place.

But it wasn't the police. It was a boy. A very familiar looking boy. "Are you okay?" he asked as I looked at his green eyes. "Jesse?" I whispered, as recognition dawned on his face. "No way... Petra?" he whispered back, immediately running over to me.

"Jesse wait, why are you-." I stood up, ignoring the pain of the many cuts I had on my feet, I started to walk but I was stopped by his lips on mine. I had waited for two years for this. Two long years. And finally, I met the boy who started this all. Jesse took me by my elbows, tears glistening in his eyes.

"Petra. I can't believe... I've been saving money ever since we met. And during those months we didn't talk, I've been working hard just to save some money and travel here." Jesse said, running a finger across my cheek as I cried. "I love you, Jesse. I really really do." I sobbed, hugging him tightly as he hugged me back. "Whatever happens, Petra. I will always find you."
