Xara's PoV

I pulled back the bowstring, and inhaled slowly. This could change my path. My road to victory. With a steady arm and the target in sight, I let go of the string. The arrow sailed towards the target and I watched with anticipation. "AH HA!" someone yelled. The arrow had missed the board completely, impaling itself in a nearby tree.

"What the- ROMEO!" I yelled, glaring up at the red haired boy who was sitting on a tree. Romeo stuck his tongue out at me before sliding down the broad branches. Fred just looked up nonchalantly and continued to write in his book. "Romeo. You know you can't use your powers in a competition." Fred drawled, flipping a page with his powers.

It was a really breezy day. Romeo, Fred and I were just chilling outside the cabin, where we were staying for now. "Smart move, from those caves to here Fred." I said, sitting next to our resident bookworm. Fred just smiled politely, never raising his head from his book.

Romeo raised an eyebrow, grinning. He reached out to take a slice of cake and eating it. I threw a potato at him, making him throw a poisonous potato right back at me. We were that bored. Suddenly, he winked and took my hand, pulling me up. "Hey! What are you doing?" I laughed. "Let's leave that little egghead to his books and explore! I've always wanted to build a town." Romeo said, pulling me towards a vast forest. Together, we walked towards the shady green forest.

"Here?" I asked, looking around. Romeo shook his head, gesturing to the mountains. "Maybe one day, we can find a place we can call home. Besides our cabin," Romeo added, nodding to our humble wooden home.

"But why would you want to build a town? We've got all we need. Food, water-." I started to say when Romeo smiled a little wider. "Who cares about that? We've got powers, Xara, we can do whatever we want!" I knew Romeo had a short fuse, so I had to calm him down a little. "Yeah, I understand. What would you call your town?" I changed the subject, holding it would distract him.

Romeo and I had climbed a mountain as we were talking, so now all we could see was a large carpet of untouched land. All green and blue. No human has even set foot here, apart from the three of us. Romeo tapped his chin, thinking hard. "Romeoburg." He teased, making me laugh.

"What a name. It's great." I said, laughing. Romeo stared at me. "You think I was serious? I said it as a joke." he nudged me. "Nah, I like it. I would name my town.." I trailed off, thinking. But after five minutes, I still couldn't think of a good name.

"How about... The Oasis? A place where everyone can just live in peace." Romeo suggested, suddenly taking my hand and giving it a squeeze. "The Oasis, huh?" I smiled lightly. It was a beautiful name. "Beautiful." I agreed with Romeo, who relaxed. "Hey, I helped you pick out a name and you picked mine out for me. All's fair."

I stared at the horizon, where the sun was slowly setting. "Romeo?" I asked quietly. "Do you think we'll be friends forever?" I asked, without looking at him. My best friend relaxed against the rock we were leaning on. "Sure we will. Forever and ever."

Five years later.

It wasn't fair. It wasn't. Romeo had changed. Now he was ordering Fred and I around. He wasn't the friendly little boy anymore. He was a monster. Fred and I tried to reason with him but he didn't even bat an eyelid. Killing that family was the last straw.

"Are you sure about this?" I asked Fred quietly as he closed his eyes, enchanting his diamond sword. Fred was holding out a piece of lapis lazuli and remembered randomly that he liked the colour lapis blue. And birch wood. "All it needs is the Word of Passage. I'll have everything sorted out Xara. Don't worry." Fred said primly, opening his eyes and taking his newly enchanted diamond sword.

The atmosphere has changed. It was all wrong. Somewhere above us was Romeo, storming around our towns and cities. He was the evil ruler now, and everyone hated him. "You're really sure this would put him to a passive state for a fifty years." I asked Fred as he put the potion bottle aside.

It was a glistening golden potion, with swirling purple liquid inside. "Sure it will. This has the power to stop anything from becoming too powerful. It's like a potion of weakness, but much much stronger since it's infused with a NetherStar." I swallowed nervously.

"And you want me to carry out my side of the plan." I said, still not taking my eyes off the golden bottle. Fred nodded. "All you have to do is subdue Romeo, and I'll splash him with this. And Xara..." Fred looked me sadly, his red eyes glowing a little. "I know this is hard for you, but Romeo has to be stopped."

"WE'LL KILL YOU ALL!" someone yelled, making me flinch. "YOU'LL PAY FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" I was trying to find Romeo, to put a stop to this endless madness. "Romeo!" I called, looking around the Oasis.

"ROMEO! COME OUT YOU COWARD!" I yelled, and almost immediately, he appeared in a puff of purple smoke. "DON'T CALL ME A COWARD-!" Romeo flew up, raising his arms. "PUT THAT HAND DOWN ROMEO." I said, making him stop.

"What makes you think you can tell me what to do, Xara! YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" Romeo yelled back. He raised his arms and there was a rumble like thunder above us. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I yelled over the noise but Romeo, my best friend, just smiled evilly. "Building a new world, Xara. One where we can live on without another care in the world."

"No. You'll cover up our towns. Fred's Keep, The Oasis, Romeoburg. What happened to you?" I asked, trying not to see what my friend has become. No longer was he the kind and caring boy.

I had to end this.
