(This is from a book I was writing, but I trashed it because it was taking far too long, yikes, and I'm trying to write in first person, since I've been writing in third person for ages)

Lukas's PoV

I landed on the ground, tired out from my journey. My wings were hurting really badly, thanks to that gunshot wound from one of those soldiers. Damnit. But first... I looked around the clearing, hoping to find some shelter. Maybe a small cave would do. Or a abandoned house.

Either which, I wouldn't mind. I took a step forward and clenched my fists, the pain becoming much stronger each step I took. I had to escape, run or hide. Those soldiers would do anything to capture me again. A sharp wave of nausea made me squeeze my eyes shut, and I felt the ground shift below me. But I had to keep going. I had to.

However, a crack of a twig behind me made me open my eyes and whirl around. I immediately unfurled my wings, ready to fly but instead... I see a average looking teenager, looking at me with shock. Then his shock turned to curiosity.

"Are.. are you an angel?" the guy asked, his lime green eyes fixed on my outspread wings, which were bleeding a little.

"Um.. no." I replied, stepping backwards, starting to feel embarrassed. I shouldn't bother him, I didn't even need the help of a human anyway. But the guy stepped forward, making me step backwards even more. "I'm not going to hurt you." he said, making me frown.

"Dude, I'm not an animal, you don't have to talk to me like that." I said, hoping to sound offended.

"Oh..." he scratched his neck. "Sorry, then... why do you have wings? And.. is that blood?" the guy asked, his voice rising with panic.

"Shh.! Don't panic. Jeez, I can manage on my own." I said, holding out my hands to make him stay away. "You're bleeding! I have to help you."

I sighed. "No. I cant get you involved. You'll get in trouble, now run and pretend you never saw-." I looked up when I heard a gunshot echo through the woods, sounding rather close.

"Are you in trouble?" The guy asked urgently, looking serious for once. "Uh.. kinda, I need to hide." I stepped back even more but the guy quickly grabbed my wrist, sending a shock of surprise through my body and nearly made me instinctively spread my wings wider.

"Keep those away, weirdo. Hide in here!" The guys said, pushing me into a hollowed out tree trunk. Without thinking, I folded my wings against my back and climbed in just as the boy covered the opening with a beam of wood. "Shh." he hissed and I watched from a crack through the wood as he stood in the middle of the clearing, waiting.

I shrank back a little when soldiers marched towards him, holding up their neon green guns. The same one which shot a bullet through my wings. "You! Have you seen Subject 12 anywhere around here? He's escaped." a guard looked down at the lime eyed boy threateningly.

"Hmmm.. what does he look like?" the boy asked innocently, his hands behind his back. "White wings, neon blue sword. Dangerous." a guard piped up. The boy pretended to think for awhile, as the guards waited. And... I  wondered why didn't they shoot him.

The last time they came across a human in these woods as they chased me down, well, it wasn't pretty. They had killed the wandering girl. But why didn't they kill that guy? "Now that you say that, I saw him!" The guy snapped his fingers and pointed at the opposite direction.

"Head over to the lake. I think he ran there. If you hurry, you can catch him." the boy said convincingly. Without a word, the soldiers nodded and moved out, holding their bright green guns. As they disappeared, I exhaled, wow, I didn't know I was holding my breath. "They're gone." the boy pulled away the cover as I climbed out.

"H-how did you survive?" I asked, wincing as my wing hurt again. The boy held out a hand. "I'm Aiden, by the way." he smiled. I looked at his outstretched hand, and back at Aiden, wondering what to do. "This is a handshake, dummy." He smiled, taking my hand and shaking it.

"I'm Lukas." I said lamely as Aiden pulled out glowing blue bottle from a bag I didn't notice before. Why... did that look familiar? I frowned but I flinched as Aiden spread my wings, parting the feathers and opening the bottle cork with his teeth.

"Hold still." he instructed as I clenched the front of my white shirt, bracing myself for the pain. Slowly, Aiden poured the liquid onto my wings, making them sting. "Hey-!" I yelled but Aiden took no notice. "Jeez, blonde, hold still or the potion won't work."

I rolled my eyes and after awhile, the pain subsided, making me instantly relax. "What... how'd you do that?" I managed to say as Aiden kept the now empty glass bottle into his backpack. "I should know all about you. Of course." he said nonchalantly, repacking his bag.

"What.. do you mean?" I asked, my stomach churning. Aiden looked at me, with a small smile. "My father was the one started it all, he sent those guards to get you. He's the one behind Project 12." I blinked, my mind struggling to make sense of what he just said.

"You mean.. wait, but why are you helping me?" I stepped back but Aiden took my wrist, sending another shock through my body. "Because... everything my father's been doing is wrong." Aiden admitted, rubbing his own arm.

"I want to stop his madness." Aiden looked at me, with his lime green eyes. No wonder I felt like I've seen him before. There was a portrait of his family, back at the Facility.

"He's been taking humans for years, injecting them with animal DNA, and making them like you. With wings, or even enhanced night vision, or even enhanced strength. He tried to inject me, with a tiger's DNA but," Aiden laughed a little, "I talked him out of it if I promised to behave myself and help him carry out his projects."

"So.." I trailed off. Standing in front of me, was a boy, related to the mad man, who gave me wings. What even.. "I'm not going to turn you in of course. Why should I? I hate my dad."

I smiled a little and spread my wings, realising that they were actually healed. "Now fly, maybe you can hide out somewhere while I try to convince my dad to stop his projects but I'm sure he wouldn't listen." Aiden smirked, looking at the sunset, filtering through the leaves.

I swallowed. "Aiden.. look," I looked down at his hand, which was somehow still wrapped around my wrist. "You don't have to do this alone. I'm going to help shut all this down too." I said, making him smile wider.

"Really?" there was hesitance in his voice. I nodded a little. I had to shut it all down. Fulfil my promise to Petra. "Promise."

There was a pause as Aiden registered my reply. Suddenly he blinked and nodded determinedly, looking at me with his lime green eyes.

"Okay then, let's do this together." he smiled. "Now let's try those wings of yours." he said.
