Clementine's PoV

"AJ, come on!" she whispered to the boy who ran up to her, looking back as more walkers came into view. Clementine aimed her gun and fired, instantly killing one walker in the head. "I think the next safe house should be nearby." AJ said, reloading his gun.

"We can't stay nearby, they'll close us in. We just have to think." Clementine said, looking around the clearing, where there was a river, flowing fast across some sharp rocks and spraying them with water. Clementine looked at the walkers, which were closing in. They couldn't escape.

"Do we..." AJ looked at the silver gun in his hand and then at the river behind them. "No, we can't swim across. The current's too strong." she replied, gently squeezing his shoulder. His eyes narrowed with determination and he held up his gun. "Then we fight."

Clementine nodded and took out her knives, which she had picked up from the garage they had just left. If things got rough... she would have to use the last bullet... as last her resort. A walker stumbled towards them and swung his hand at her, but Clementine immediately raised her knife and stabbed it in the head.

AJ raised his gun and fired, killing another and making it drop right into the fast flowing stream. "Good one-." Clementine said, but AJ gasped when a walker grabbed Clementine's arm. She gasped and pulled away, a sudden memory shocking her as she remembered Lee.. no. She couldn't think of him now.

She yelled furiously and stabbed its head with her dagger, making it growl and drop to the ground. She took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Clementine turned and saw AJ, backing away right into an incoming walker.

"AJ!" Clementine gasped but she was too slow.

Suddenly there was a loud burst of gunfire behind Clementine, shocking her and nearly making her drop her gun. She turned to see a girl, about her age, holding up a black pistol, her face covered with dirt and grime.

She looked furious, not at Clementine or at AJ. More towards the walkers. The last walker stumbled back as the girl shot another bullet in its head, sending it to to ground and spraying dark crimson blood everywhere. "Have you seen them?!" she demanded, turning her dark brown eyes to Clementine and AJ. She didn't seem at all surprised to see them though.

"Uh..." AJ said, "Thanks?"

The girl rolled her eyes and looked at the ground, as if searching for something. Clementine drew AJ close to her, shielding him in case this... girl attacked them. However the girl seemed to notice her gesture and smirked. "Yeah, you should be afraid of me," she said in a menacing voice, but she sounded more amused than angry, "Now answer me, did you hear anyone passing through?"

Clementine looked at AJ, and back at the redhead, who's messy auburn hair was pulled into a loose bun. "No.. we didn't." Clementine said, tightening her grip on AJ's shoulder, getting ready to run in case this strange girl attacked.

"Oh come on." the girl muttered, "They make such a huge racket in this woods. Every walker in the vicinity must've heard them." The girl suddenly scowled and took out a silver knife, which had a single blue gem on the base. Clementine swore she saw something like that before... but where?

"If you don't know where my friends are, then I suppose I should leave you alone now." the girl swept her hair out of her face as she turned to the bushes in front of them. "Wait-!" Clementine called, holding out a hand.

The girl turned to them again, waiting. "Do you... need help?" Clementine asked.

Honestly, Clementine just wanted to find a place with other people. Something she'd never thought of but she was starving, AJ probably was too. And if they wanted food, they'd had to find people. The girl raised an eyebrow. "I guess you can come along. Judging by how thin you are, I suppose you need food as well."

"How did you-?"

"Please," the girl scoffed, "My friend Jesse says that I'm good at reading people." she cut away some leaves to clear a path, with Clementine and AJ following.

"Can we trust her?" AJ asked Clementine, who still didn't loosen her grip on his shoulder. "We just need food, alright?" her hands were shaking from the lack of food, and making everything seem more unbearable. The girl turned to them, while walking backwards. "How long have you guys even been in here?" she asked, slinging off her backpack and rummaging through it.

"We... lost count of the days, to be honest." Clementine said, gripping the bark of some trees to steady herself. The girl frowned and looked into her bag once more. "Here you go." she pulled out a squashed apple. It was bitten a little, so the outside was a little brown, but it was food, nevertheless.

Clementine accepted it gratefully and offered it to AJ first, who shook his head. Without hesitation or even thinking twice, she bit into the apple, feeling the fruit fill her empty stomach. "Whoa- slow down girl," the redhead laughed, pushing aside more branches.

"I'm hungry." Clementine complained, but kept a little bit of the apple in her bag, for later use. "Well, I'm sure Lukas has more food in that huge backpack he has." the girl said, chopping down more leaves. "Oh... um.. what's your name anyway?" AJ asked suddenly, making the girl pause a little.

"What's yours first?" she asked, looking at AJ. The little goof ball smiled. "It's AJ."

"I'm Clementine." Clementine said when the girl looked at her questioningly.

She smirked, definitely warming up to them. "Well, I'm Petra. I have three more friends, who are kinda lost I guess. They're Jesse, Lukas and Ivor." she explained, stepping over a small creek.

"Why... did you guys separate?" AJ asked, hopping over the running water to gaze up at Petra. Petra smirked wider, "Jesse was an idiot. That's all."

"Hey, watch the language." Clementine said as Petra stopped in her tracks. "I don't think we should worry about language now, Clem." she pointed to a clearing ahead.

More walkers.

"Great." Clementine said, holding her knife up. Petra frowned. "There's too many of them. I don't think we can take down that many all by ourselves." she said, twirling her dagger with her finger.

"Well, the only way to get past them is to fight. So I say," Clementine pulled out another knife. "We fight."

Petra smiled, a playful glint in her eye.

"Then fight it is."
