Because you guys miss Jetra. :
Petra's PoV
Petra looked up when she heard a sudden knock on the door. She wasn't expecting anyone, was she?
She sighed and stood up from where she was unpacking her boxes. "Who's there?" she called, pressing a hand against the wooden door and listening for a reply.
"Uh.. hello." a quiet voice called, "I was just wondering if this is really Room 467? Because.. I think there must've been a mistake."
Petra frowned, "Well this is Room 467." she unlocked the door and swung it open, standing in a way so that whoever was outside couldn't see into her dorm room.
A teenager with messy brown hair and dark green eyes stood in front of her. With a neatly folded box of objects under his right arm and a piece of paper in the other, he seemed.. uncomfortable. And possibly lost.
"Hey, sorry," he placed down the box onto the red carpeted floor and glanced at the paper he had.
Petra sighed, really wanting to just close the door on this guy and unpack her stuff. "I think I'm lost." he continued, sheepishly rubbing his neck.
"You sure are," Petra stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind her, "Now whats your assigned room number?" she asked as patiently as she could.
"Room 467." the guy spoke up, "And don't tell me I'm holding the paper upside down because I'm not. I've checked this whole school, every single level and this just leads me back to your room every time."
She rolled her eyes, "Then there's obviously a mistake. They shouldn't assign a boy and a girl together in one-."
"Hey Petra!"
She glanced to her right to see a boy, waving at her. He had light blue eyes and tousled blonde hair which fell into his eyes. "Hey Lukas," she sighed, "What is it this time?"
"There's been a mistake," he told her, "I've been wanting to tell you.." he trailed off when he saw the guy who was standing in front of her. "I see you've run into the problem then."
"I think there must be a mix up here, Lukas," Petra told the blonde. "This guy here says that he's assigned to my room. He's obviously mistaken-."
"The fifth floor is renovating," Lukas looked away from the brown haired boy, "So Miss Simmons told me that he's assigned to your room for the time being, Petra. Sorry to say."
Petra looked at the boy, who looked puzzled. "What's your name, new guy?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Huh- oh uh.." he snapped out of his thoughts, "It's Jesse.."
"Well Jesse," Lukas reached out to shake his hand, smiling happily as Petra rolled her eyes, "Tone it down a little Lukas. Your gayness is showing."
Lukas shoved her shoulder, smirking, "Great, you've ruined my chance now Pet."
"Uh, I'm right here?" Jesse held up his hands, smiling slightly.
"Lukas you're a walking gay disaster." Petra rolled her eyes, "Go back to your boyfriend. I'm sure Aiden misses you."
Lukas stuck his tongue out at her and grinned at Jesse. "Okay, okay, but you two take care. This is probably going to be for a week or two. Alright?"
Petra sighed, "Just go away Lukas, and thanks."
The blonde grinned even wider and left, leaving Petra and Jesse standing in the corridor, with a box of his stuff on the ground and a sudden awkwardness in the air.
"Here let me.." Petra reached down to take the box, surprising herself since she usually wasn't the very helpful type.
Jess quickly bent down, "Oh no, it's my stuff so.."
Petra stopped herself just in time, catching herself before she accidentally hit her head against Jesse's.
"Um, sorry," she told him as they straightened up again. Jesse shrugged, "It's okay, you don't have to keep apologising, Petra." he smiled.
Even though she didn't formally introduce herself, she was surprised that Jesse remembered her name. He stood up, holding the box in his arms.
"I guess." she turned to unlock the door with her keycard, wordlessly entering the dorm room and gesturing around their tiny room. "I'm taking the left side, so just throw your stuff over there. It's fine."
Jesse nodded and set his box of books and possessions on the carpeted floor.
Petra was a little intrigued by his quietness, the ability to say so many things despite him not talking. She could tell he was a really clean person, judging by the way he arranged his things.
Not for long though, she thought to herself, as soon as classes started for the year, they'd just throw everything everywhere. College.
"You okay?" he looked up at her, in the midst of unpacking some pictures.
"Oh," she nodded, running her fingers through her hair, "Yeah I'm fine, I'm just wondering how long you'd be staying here, not that you're intruding or anything!" she added, afraid she might've offended him.
"Lukas did say for a week or two," Jesse sighed, looking out the window where there were some students outside playing with water balloons on campus. "Sorry if I messed up your plans."
Petra shook her head, sitting on her bed and lacing her fingers together, "You're the one apologising now, Jesse. So stop." she told him with a smirk, "And you're not intruding, at least you're neat and tidy, unlike Lukas's boyfriend."
"He's really gay huh," Jesse asked, amused as he grabbed hold on the frame of his bed to lift himself up from the floor, "He's funny."
"And annoying sometimes," Petra added, "But you can hang out with us, if you want. What classes are you taking?" she asked, curious.
Jesse fell silent for awhile, frowning and tapping his long fingers against the mattress. "I decided to take a course in veterinary. Since I like animals."
Petra was a little surprised. She was expecting him to be a writer, like Lukas and Aiden. But she could tell he was actually serious.
"That's really nice actually," she admitted, "But-."
She glanced at her phone, which buzzed at her, indicating a text from one of her friends, probably. "I guess I have to go now," she told him, standing up, running her fingers through her hair. "Aiden and Lukas wants to meet me for a drink."
Jesse started to say something when she hesitated, her hand on the door. She didn't know why but... she wanted to test him. See how this newbie could handle being her roommate. Or maybe see what type of person he was.
Before she could lose her nerve, she smiled, "You can... follow me if you want."
And she held out a hand.
