Xara's PoV (3rd Person)

Xara opened her eyes, blinking in the sudden light. For a moment, she lay there on the ground, trying to blink the dark spots from her eyes. "About time you woke up," someone said, startling her. She sat up, a little lightheaded. She turned to see her old friend, Fred. "What? Fred, I thought you were-."

"Dead? No, I'm very much alive, dear Xara." Fred said sighing, "But.." Xara started to cry a little. "You mean, I'm dead too?" Xara asked, slowly getting up from the floor and walking over to her friend. Fred smiled. "Well, okay, yes, we're dead, but there's a way to get back." Fred said, nodding to a table Xara didn't notice which was in the middle of the room.

"This is one of Romeo's crazy inventions." Fred explained, getting up and joining Xara at the round table. It was a plain white table, with holographic designs around the edges. "What? This table?" Xara asked, looking at Fred. He nodded, "Its created so that we.. we can have a taste of our old powers again.."

Fred took Xara's hand and placed it on the table. Suddenly, the table lit up with blue and purple light, and designs started to form on the it. And at the same time, structures formed around the two of them.

"Everything is connected," Fred was saying as Xara removed her hands from the table, shocked. "All we have to do, is to get that portal," Fred pointed to a glowing white portal located on the far end of the map, "To us. Then we can finally go home.." Fred explained.

"Well, let's go then." Xara said, looking around and walking in the direction of the portal. But Fred took her arm and pulled her back. "If you go out there, anything beyond this border you'll disintegrate." Fred said, pointing to a glowing white line.

Xara frowned. "How's this all possible? Romeo's not that powerful, right?" Fred shook his head. "I don't know... but I've been waiting for you Xara. To help me get out of this and to finally see you once more."

Xara looked at him and back at the glowing table. "How do we solve this then?" She asked. "Move the pieces around, so that we can have a clear path. See those glowing squares? That's a path straight to the portal, unblock those and we can walk outside and to it."

Xara smiled. "Fred, you're always making everything sound so complicated." Xara swiped left, and outside, a glowing white tree moved according to where she wanted it to go. "So you're saying everything I move here, affects outside as well?" She asked Fred. He nodded.

Sighing, Xara started to move things around, trying to find a way to the portal. "Day one.." Xara muttered to herself, stopping and walking over to a wall and scratching a line down.

Xara worked on the puzzle for ages, occasionally stopping because she was frustrated, or tired. Each day, the number of lines grew, and each day, she was one step closer to the portal. Halfway through the year, she was ready to give up.

"We can't give up, not now.." Fred said, moving a tree to the left. Outside, the tree moved according to where he wanted it to go. Xara looked at Fred. "I cant keep going. It's too hard. We'll be stuck here forever." she said desperately.

Fred shook his head. "You can do this Xara. You're always the smart one in our group." Fred encouraged. Xara looked down at the table, which was glowing faintly. The portal was so close, yet so far.

"It's already been half a year." Xara said, gesturing to the transparent walls. Fred frowned. "I know.. but we can work it out together, one more try." he said, looking at the table determinedly. Fred always had a way to encourage others.. Xara thought.

"Okay.." Xara sighed, "One more time." she said. Fred and Xara stood at the table, moving pieces of the scenery together. Clearing a path towards the portal. Once or twice, Xara felt herself going crazy and getting ready to give up, but every time, Fred took her hand and guided her.

On the 257th day, Xara tiredly scratched another line on the wall. The whole room was covered in lines and drawings of the portal. Xara looked over at Fred, who was working away at the table. She sighed, running a hand across the portal drawing... she wished she could move the portal closer to where they were-

Xara looked up, realising what she had to do. "Fred, we've been thinking about this wrongly." she said, getting up quickly and running over to the table. "What?" he asked as Xara looked for the portal.

"We've been so focused on moving ourselves to the portal.. why not we.." Xara picked up the portal and slid it towards them. To her surprise, it obeyed, and outside, the portal appeared in front of their door. Xara started to laugh.

"Oh my god. The answer was so simple!" she high fived Fred, who grinned broadly. "Goodbye day 257." Xara said, taking Fred's hand and together, both of them entered the portal.
