An Appetite for Moons

Hello Moon, so far away

I have a question for you

Don't be scared, don't leave me now

Please just answer true

You know of those who long for you

Do you know why this is so?

Because people have the same desires

They've had since long ago

They love your ethereal beauty

That's much of what they adore

But within their mind's subconscious,

I think it's something more

To them, you represent things

That are too far out of reach

For any hope of catching them

Of crossing that endless breach

You represent desires

Wishes, hopes, and dreams

That burn so strongly within them

That they're bursting at the seams

You represent things they never can have

But would do anything to get

They're willing to risk what they already have

And throw away all to reach it

They hunger for opportunities

For the possibility of more

And never stop to think about

All that they had before

So they rant and rave and do all they can

To reach what they think they need

Ignoring the things they shouldn't forget

Reaching farther, out of greed

So Moon, here's my question for you now

With what you mean to those buffoons

Does it make you afraid, when you're looked at by those

With such an appetite for moons?
