Bella's POV
"Thank you so much Kaity," I smile as she finishes my hair. With my luck, I would have singed part of my hair off, smeared my makeup everywhere, and shanked myself in the eye with some type of makeup application tool. That's why I called Kaity over, and she ended up helping me so I couldn't screw anything up.
"No problem. Now, go have fun," she smiles, hugging me from behind. Kaity is like an older sister to me. She's been around for forever since she's always been around my brother. I can look to her for advice on practically everything. No matter what the situation is, I can always talk to her.
"I'm waiting until Michael shows up, so I can blast as soon as I leave my room. The last thing I need is my mom to ambush Michael and I with her camera," I slip my shoes onto my feet.
"How are you going to manage to do that? He's going to walk up to the door. Does your mom even know you have a date?" she asks, and I purse my lips. My mom doesn't know about my relationship with Michael. I really should tell her. She doesn't care if I date him or not. Kaity sends me a disapproving look. "You need to tell her."
"I will, just after this," I shoot her a thumbs up, and she just shakes her head. I laugh and look at my phone. Three minutes ago, Michael sent me a text that he was here.
"Bye Bella. Have fun," Kaity waves. I nod quickly before bolting out of the door and straight towards Michael who is standing right next to this minivan. As soon as I reach him, he hugs me and gives me a rose.
"I know this might not be the most luxurious ride, but I can't drive yet, so my mom is driving us," he scratches the back of his neck adorably, and I smile.
"I couldn't imagine anything else," I laugh. Let me tell you, this boy looks so good right now. It's hard for me to concentrate.
"Oh, and my sister, who is a freshman, is also in there with her date, so she's forcing us into the very back, so my mom can 'talk' aka interrogate him. Oh, and my sister doesn't want people to think we're related, so if anyone asks, she's a 'family friend,'" Michael keeps using these little hand quotes. He turns and opens the door, letting me in. Up until this moment, I don't realize I've never actually met Michael's mom before. I've heard of her, but I've never seen her or met her. I get in, and she smiles at me.
"Hi Bella," she waves. I can kind of see the resemblance between her and Michael, but not between Michael and his sister. His sister glares at him intently as a boy, who looks like he's in our grade, sits with his arm around her.
"Hi Mrs. Smith," I almost say Mrs. Conor, but I don't, and that's what matters. She smiles at starts up the car.
"So Duke, so you do any after school activities?" Michael's mom starts asking the boy next to Michael's sister.
"She's been doing this the whole ride over here. It's hilarious," Michael laughs quietly to me so no one else can hear him.
"Is she going to do that to me?" my eyes widen, and he starts laughing. His sister turns around and glares at him, but he keeps laughing.
"No. She actually has faith in my judgement. Kaitlyn's on the other hand...," he drags on, a smile on his face. "I mean, she is a freshman going with a senior. He's older than me!" he announces, and Kaitlyn turns around and slaps his hand.
"Shut up," she hisses and turns around before rolling her eyes.
---
"You look very pulchritudinous tonight," Michael whispers in my ear as we walk inside. His arm is gently wrapped around my side.
