Search For A Weapon

Even though we weren't fully healed, we were good enough to leave town. Everybody seemed well rested except for Kika. I guess I can't blame her. Void still looks miserable, he kept the remains of his sword even though it is practically useless to wield something that has lost its purpose. We walked a long way, Void and Guardian guiding us to the graveyard where Guardian was found.

"You traveled through a beautiful place," Fang said raising a hand to his head.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, it just. . . hurts. . ." Fang explained.
"Well, let's take a break."
"No, I'm fine, really. Just my memories I think."
"Remembering?"
"I. . . yes. I remember walking around a place like hill that creates a cliff with a river flowing near it. It's. . . I don't know, but I remember something like this."
"One memory at a time."
"Yeah."

"It took us two days to get to the mountains, we must've gotten here faster by taking the shorter route," Kika pointed.
"Yeah, makes sense," Guardian spoke.
As we walked the surrounding green turned gray and the skies darkened a little. I then saw a grave, then another, and another. Soon, it became rows and rows of graves. So this is the endless grave. It is best not to come here alone, otherwise you could go crazy. We walked a long time in the endless grave.
"Here," Guardian said. "The halberd should be in a chest under my gravestone."
Void was hesitant at first, then he pulled out the gravestone and dug a little with his hands. He pulled out a large chest. He opened it and pulled out a beautifully shaped spear. Void strapped it on his back and sighed as he put the chest back and gravestone.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"It just. . . doesn't feel the same."
"You haven't tried- enemies." Guardian said.
"Wait, what?" Xane asked.
"I sense a disturbance nearby. A group of shadows," Guardian said.
"Shadow's portal is nearby. It is dangerous," Void said.
Bang!
The shot almost hit Void. The group of shadows came up.
"Look, an angel, a betrayer and weak humans," One shadow said.
"Stay back before I hurt you!" Void said aggressively. I don't think I've seen such aggression from Void.
"Oh, what words from a betrayer. We'll end you."
The shadow who was speaking drew an obsidian blade and rushed towards Void. Void moved to the side and blocked a swing. He then pushed away and thrusted the spear through the shadow's chest causing him to fade into darkness.
"You're a natural!" Guardian said.
Void wasn't sure as the rest of us defeated the other shadows.

~~~
Yes, it's my weapon, just by the feel. However. . . it just feels. . . distant. It has a faint glow, a weak presence, unlike my sword. Maybe with more practice the better attached I will be with it. I strapped the halberd back on my back and it certainly doesn't feel right. I stretched my wings to get used to it, but it doesn't feel right.
"Where to now?" I asked in a dull tone.
"Let us first please leave," Flecin said.
"Agreed," Kika added.
We all walked out. I looked back at Guardian's grave one last time, then followed the rest.
Fang fumbled with the bullets he received from the shadows.
"It's good that you got some ammunition," I said.
"Yeah, very lucky. I have a good amount in my pockets."
"Have you ever thought of using any other weapon?" I asked.
"Yeah, I have. However, using a firearm felt natural. I'm not sure if I've used one when I was alive."
"Wait, you were killed?"
"I think so. I'm slowly recovering my memories, but I can't remember how I died."
"I see. . . I doubt someone as young as you are were allowed to carry firearms."
"I guess I just found that it works well here then!" Fang said undeterred with the topic of dying.
I envy Fang's positive attitude even though he is aware of his lost memories. Could I have been like him?
We left the graveyard and the sun was setting by the time we left the gray.
"Camping out for the night?" Xane sighed.
"What's the matter with camping?" Flecin asked.
"No, I was just getting used to sleeping on a bed!" Xane laughed.
"Yeah, yeah," Kika said rolling her eyes.
We all set up camp near a large hill and a river. Rade accompanied Flecin off to a search for some firewood to make camp. Everyone was busy with something, or just sitting around. I sat near the river alone just looking at the flowing water.
"Careful, Void. Water is probably your greatest threat," Guardian's ghost spoke to me.
"I know. And sorry, I wish I can put the shadow crystal somewhere in the halberd."
"No, it's fine. It's a traditional weapon anyway."
"I'm not used to it," I admitted.
"I can feel it though. It is now yours. You just need to earn the natural feel."
"Earn it?"
"Yes, training is one of many ways how people master a weapon. However, traveling all over with it and fighting different people can enhance your ability with it. It may not look like much of a weapon, and may seem long and heavy, but over time, I guarantee, it will stick with you."
"I hope so," I sighed looking back at the water.
"Why do you always look at water? Doesn't it scare you?"
"Yes, it does scare me. However, it also has this beauty to it. I want to touch and feel what it's like without pain. Not with a stick, but with my actual hand." I reached out to the water, a light touch and my skin sizzled in pain. "It's hard to be a shadow. Born to feel pain."
"But now you are a shadow who is doing more than just feeling pain," Guardian pointed out.
"I guess. . ." I pulled out my broken sword and looked at the broken steel. "I was always upset that I was the odd shadow out. To have a steel sword rather than an obsidian one. Over time, I've really grew with this sword and it became my valued weapon, and I didn't even notice."
"Even if you were to rebuild it, it would be completely different. Keep those remains. You'll never know when they may become useful," Guardian said.
"I will."
"Hey, Void! We can eat!" Xane called.
"Funny. Shadows aren't supposed to eat, and yet now I eat every meal given," I chuckled.
"That's another reason why that makes you more than a shadow," Guardian said.
