When You Tell Them A Story

They are 7 now.

Now that your sons are older, you and Splinter decide to tell them about how you and Splinter met and how they mutated.

"Splinty, remember that question Leo asked me last year?" You ask. He nods.

"Yes, I remember it well, he wanted to know how himself and us became who we are today." Splinter replied kindly.

"I think that since they're older now, maybe we can tell them. After all, I did promise Leo."

"I think you are right (Y/N), it's time they knew the truth about everything, including my wife and child's death..."

You look at Splinter, was he ready to talk about this after 7 years?

"Are you sure your ready to talk about it?" "It's ok if you don't want to tell them about Tang and Miwa." You say.

He nods. "I will be alright, I am ready to tell them, after all, I need to warn them about Saki."

You kiss him and go find your boys. Leo is in his room, Raph is in the living room with Mikey and Donnie is in his lab.

Oh yes, a few days ago, Splinter cleared out the old bedroom and made it into a lab for Donnie! Now he can build all his little inventions!

You call them into the dojo and they run in excitedly to find out what's going on.

"What's going on mummy?" Mikey asks excitedly. Your other sons curious as well.

"Leo, remember that question you asked last year?" "I think we are ready to tell you boys."

Leo immediately lights up. "Yes!" "Tell us, tell us, tell us!" "Please!" He begged.

Raph looked at you and looked at Leo in confusion. "Tell us what mummy?" He asked.

Splinter motions for them to come over. He sits on the chair and you stand next to him.

He takes Leo and Raph in his lap and you hold Donnie and Mikey. You wait patiently.

"We are going to tell you a story. The story of how we came to be as a family." Splinter began.

"Your mother and I both were  born and raised in Japan, one day my house caught fire."

Then you jump in, explaining your side of the story. "I put out the fire and your father and I became good friends."

Now they were interested. "Did you get hurt?" Mikey asked Splinter worriedly.

Splinter smiled then frowned. "No, but unfortunately I lost my wife, Tang and my baby daughter Miwa."

Now the boys became very quite and solem. "Is that why your scared of fire?" Donnie asked quietly.

Splinter sighed and nodded. "Yes, I am fine though, do not worry about me." He assured.

All four of your sons then hug him. "Sorry Sensei." They say sadly.

"Thank you my sons, I am feeling better...but have four great sons and a beautiful wife." Splinter says.

"Wait...doesn't that mean we have an older sister?" Leo said looking up at you.

Splinter nodded. "Technically, yes...Miwa was a year old when she died." "She would be 8 today."

"What happened next in the story sensei?" Raph asked anxiously.

"Well, after 6 months of living together, Splinter proposed to me and we got married and moved here to New York."

Splinter continued. "Then, we went to a pet store and bought 4 baby turtles as pets."

"We were walking home when a man dropped green ooze on all of us." "That's how we all mutated."

"So you and mummy were human?" Mikey asked happily. You nod.

"So we could have been pet turtles?!" "Good thing we got mutated!" Donnie shouts.

"And that's the story of how we came to be a family, I wouldn't want it any other way!" You smile.

You and your boys pull Splinter into a hug and you stay like that for a few minutes.

A sudden thought struck Leo. "How did your house catch fire?" He asks Splinter.

Splinter turns very serious and looks all four of them in the eye. He began to speak

"A very bad man did it...he tried to kill my family and he succeeded in a way." "His name is the Shredder and he is very, very dangerous."

"Will he hurt us?" Mikey asks worriedly clinging to you. You nod much to his dismay.

"He is very capable of doing that my sons, that's why you are being trained to become ninjas." Splinter explained.

"Yes my sons, Saki is truly dangerous and he knows nothing about you." "That is why you are not going to the surface until you are 16."

They all nod fearfully and you notice little tears of terror in their eyes.

"Don't be scared boys, once you are 16 you will be very skilled and trained, he will not be able to hurt you." You say.

They hug you and nuzzle themselves into your chest. "We love you and Splinter mummy." They say.

Splinter joins in on the little hug. "And we love you my sons." He murmurs.

Well, at least they know the truth.

"Now they know."
