Ethan sobbed into my chest as I rocked him back and forth. All the other kids have gone to bed but Ethan has been crying for hours straight.
It's understandable. With his disability, he couldn't fully understood what happened. He thought I was gonna leave him again.
"Shhh, I'm not going anywhere bub. Mommy is right here and I'm never leaving you again."
I said as I kissed his cheek. I looked over at Fergal as I sighed.
"Momma can I ask you something?"
Ethan sniffled as he picked his head up off my shoulder.
"Of course bubs."
I said as I smoothed his blonde hair behind his ear.
"Why do you kids at school not like me? They make fun of me Momma! They tell me I'm stupid and I look like a freak."
Ethan cried. I looked at Fergal as my heart broke. I knew this day would come but...so soon? He's only in first grade!
"Shh, you aren't a freak. You're special. And unique. And those kids don't know anything. You're an amazing, wonderful little boy and we love you no matter what you look like, Okay?"
"Okay. I love you Mommy."
Ethan said as he hugged me. Fergal took him to the room as I sighed. How could kids be so cruel? I didn't want my little boy to hurt like he's hurting. And it breaks my heart that he feels the pain of bullying.
"You okay?"
Fergal asked as he came downstairs.
"Yeah. It just hurts so see him like that but..,we'll be okay."
I said as I gave a weak smile.
"Yeah. I love you."
Fergal said as he kissed me.
