the music store feels quiet when i run inside of it. i run to the piano section and sit down on the rectangular chair in front of the grand piano. my fingers think of their own and play out the first song ashton and i listened to together, stars by the xx.

my face burns as i think over the song lyrics. most of the lyrics slipped out of my mind but the most important ones stayed. the song lyrics have nothing to do with the unexplainable emotions i feel inside, but i believe the notes give off a story of its own.

"back so soon?" i turn my head to calum. he doesn't have the guitar wrapped around his body like i expected.

"yup," i reply, popping the p.

"hey..." calum says before sitting down beside me uninvited, once again, "are you okay?"

the word 'yes' is on the tip of my tongue, but i quickly change my mind to the truth, "no."

"what happened?" he asks.

"it's a long story." i tell him. i randomly press down on a key, "i don't want to talk about it."

he nods understandingly, "well, if you need me, i'm on the other side, unpacking our new instruments."

"thanks," i sadly smile. he gets up leaves me back to finishing the song. i hate being alone.
