Double Journey Chapter 49

Amethyst, Diamond, and their Pokémon huddled backstage.

"Don't listen to anyone but us," Amethyst reinforced.

"Just attack!" Diamond added. The team put their hands and paws in the center, and shouted, "FIRE AND ICE!"

The duo glided through Round One, beating two rookies in one shot. Amethyst congradgulated them, but inside felt a little bad. But they didn't stand a chance anyway, considering as the Semi Finals Round was against...Red and Gold. Or as they called themselves, the beasts.

Amethyst gagged inwardly at the name as they strutted on stage.

The crowd was ecstatic. They all knew about the recent breakups.

"FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!" The crowd members screamed and shouted, and Amethyst was more than willing to give them the satisfaction that was a brawl.

'The Beasts' swaggered on stage, tossing their pokeballs confidently into the air.

Amethyst tuned out the announcer as he blurted the rules, and locked eyes with Red. He smirked at her, creating a heart with his hands and blowing her a kiss.

She promptly made a fist punch-hand motion.

The crowd went wild, with "Blackthorn Brawl" and "Amethyst for the Win" posters being shaken violently. The crowd was roaring like a Loudred. The kids hadn't noticed; most were looking around like "what happened?"

The shotgun blasted and the battle began.

"Arcanine! Glaceon! Go get 'em!" Diamond and Amethyst called together, throwing them out. Red and Gold sent out Pikachu and Ambipom, respectively.

"Now! Arcanine! Fire spin!" Amethyst yelled to the immediately airborne Pokémon.

"Glaceon! Quick, Blizzard!" Diamond called. The ice shards formed around the flame as it slammed into Pikachu, who was almost already knocked out. But of COURSE Red had a trick up his sleeve. Pikachu held an Oran Berry, which gave him enough strength to fight.

"Ambipom! Close combat on Glaceon!" Gold yelled, and Ambipom slammed into Glaceon and mauled her with his hands.

"Glaceon! Ice beam! Right in the face!" Diamond said quickly.

"Pikachu! Shock wave, now!" Red smirked. Arcanine was rendered paralyzed by the electric shock.

He shook with rage, rage that filled him with power. The huge Pokémon let out a howl of anger as Amethyst commanded, "Now! Overheat!"

"Glaceon! Powder Snow!" Ambipom was down from the ice beam, but Pikachu was not.

Overheat and Powder Snow burst into the air like the Big Bang, huge and all at once. The fire swirled around Pikachu, hurting it severely as it fainted. Powder snow added beauty to the pain, sparkling snow floating down from the ceiling as the audience cheered.

Diamond and Amethyst hugged as the losers sulked offstage. Amethyst healed Arcanine and bowled into him, peppering his coat with kisses as he licked her cheek and hugged her with his paws.

Photographers snapped as many photos of the cute moment as possible, but were then ushered offstage. The crowd "awwwwwed" and Amethyst could here Lynn's scream of "DAS MY GIRL!"

Amethyst had completely new hair and a personal dressing room for her and Arcanine. She was whooshed into a completely new look, a black sports bra and spandex with the fading rainbow stripes like Arcanine's. She wore Arcanine ears and an Arcanine tail, but her most striking and frightening feature was the fake flames that spewed at will from her gloves and automatically from her neck. It was very over the top, but Amethyst played with the fake flames for a while until the battle. When they were called up onto stage, the crowd was simply earsplitting, and Amethyst posters dotted the crowd extremely frequently with cute and clever sayings on them.

Amethyst and Diamond waited impatiently in the glowing battlefield for their Finals Opponents. This was the most serious battle of all. The lights dimmed, the glow stopped, and the stage was illuminated by purple spectral gas on one side. To Amethysts surprise, it was Silver and Copper who strutted onstage.

Flames and snow erupted from Amethyst's and Diamond's side. It was fake of course. Too hot for fire. The crowd "Oohhhed" and "Aaahed." Copper glared at Amethyst, and Silver did the same to Diamond.

The girls clutched their Pokéballs to their chests as the announcer yelled. "BEGIN!" And then they thruster them out and threw them in just as rehearsed. Arcanine popped out, with Glaceon on his shoulders elegantly.

Silver and Copper sent out Gengar and Exploud.

As usual, Arcanine got the first move.

ARCANINE'S POV

People think that when a Pokémon battles, it's to settle a grudge, or to hurt the enemy. That's just not true.

I am battling now for respect, to gain courage and strength. But most of all, I am battling hard for my trainer's and my ego.

You see, if we lose this match, we lose the contest to two people who are as low as humans can go. I won't let that happen to Amethyst or me, and I sure won't forget this thought in the heat of battle.

The announcer says start, and I feel myself twisting and turning as I pop out of my Pokéball, and am met with the familiar pressure of Glaceon on my back.

Amethyst doesn't hesitate to give me my orders. "Flamethrower!" She yells so fast I barely have time to process that she wants me to fire it onto Gengar.

The flames tickle my teeth and tongue as I shoot the fire straight at him. He staggers, and that wicked grin falters for a bit before he pastes it back onto his face and fires a confuse ray at Glaceon. She's not paying attention.

"Arcanine, fast! Use Arial Ace!" I unleash my claws, slicing straight down that smug grin. I scratch so hard he begins to bleed, and all the humans are screaming, yelling, snapping photos. I leap back as the confuse ray vanishes midair from lack of concentration.

"Crunch!" I know it's Amethyst saying that.

Glaceon takes down the Loudred as I overpower Gengar with a crunch to the neck. He doesn't even fight back, and Silver is too distraught to order him to. Gengar just shrivels in my jaws and I drop him! bounding back to Glaceon and licking her cheek and striding over to Amethyst, who is crying with joy. She drops onto her knees to hug my paws and look up at me.

I think in my head, I love you.

She says, "I love you."
