"This isn't working out." Amethyst hissed to Red, Gold, Silver, Copper, Bronze and Lyra. Behind her, Green nodded.
She had a hand on Arcanine's freshly washed and groomed head, and had changed into normal clothes. A contest tee with "Amethyst Arcanine" on it in rainbow stained glass letters. The shirt was electric blue, with a lineless cartoon of her Arcanine in bright orange. Along with that, she wore white ripped jean shorts and gold sandals.
Lynn had gotten the big group together to officially announce "The Split" as she called it. The group was separating for good.
"Green!" Red pleaded. "You're my best friend! My rival!"
"I'm here for the Pokémon." Green said curtly, his hand twitching.
"I'm sorry." Diamond said. "But if we even want to reach the Pokémon league we're gonna need to split apart."
Amethyst reached down and grabbed her bag, filled with new toys, goodies, and her stuff.
Diamond, Green, Lynn, Krys and Opal did the same.
"Au Revoir." Amethyst waved with a small smile of farewell.
"Au Revoir." Red returned the smile, and for the first time since the breakup, she wanted to apologize. But she couldn't. Because responsibility demands sacrifice. And to be responsible to the journey she was on, she needed to sacrifice a flimsy friendship that could have been more.

They swam through crowds of fans, trying to return to Lavaridge. It took the longest time of autographs and lines that Amethyst had ever stood through, but finally, they made it back to the equally busy Lavaridge Town. Excitement ran through Amethyst like a jolt as the group got into a restaurant for breakfast. Today on TV, the contest results would be aired all day, starting at 9:00. It was 8:54. The waitress recognized them and immediately gave them a big booth; they got a lot of excited stares from kids and adults alike.
They were immediately served Pancakes:all you can eat just as the Contest Results began to air.
They started off with the obligatory speech, and then the rewards were read off for Smart and Cool contests. The winners were: Yivone and Alakazam, and Red and Charizard.
Next up were tough and cute. Amethyst and Diamond held hands anxiously, and Magma was glued to the screen, holding Valencia and Kippers on his back.
Glaceon and Arcanine sat beside Magma and Blaziken, nuzzling eachother.
"For cuteness," said Nurse Joy. "Diamond Pleachfern and Glaceon!!!"
The restaurant roared to life, and Amethyst and Diamond hugged. Diamond was beet red in the face!
Lynn yelled, "SHHHH!" And the rest of the restaurant went silent.
"And for toughness..." She held her breath. "Can you guess? Amethyst and Arcanine! The fire duo!"
The breakfast house roared to life again, Amethyst hugged Arcanine tight and whispered, "I am so proud of you." She swore that he said it back.
She had tears in her eyes and Lynn put an arm around her as she took a bite of pancake.
The rest of the results were as could be expected. Diamond and Amethyst dominated everything.
Amethyst was overjoyed and full of pancakes. Her Pokémon couldn't eat a bite more either,
"You ready to go?" Opal asked.
"I'm stuffed!" Krys added.
They paid, packed up their bags once again and left to the next town.
