~Chapter 40~
"What Umbridge is doing is horrible Haz, you need to tell someone." The tall lad groaned lowly, but kept following him around like a lost puppy while he was returning books.
"Everything is so bad right now, Dumbledore is still unwilling to tell me what the hell is going on with me, I feel this constant anger within me all the time, I don't even have a date for the stupid school ball and on top of everything I didn't even start my charms just yet. Umbridge is very low on my list right now."
"Well she should be higher and why not just ask Romilda Vane, she's head over heels for you and really isn't that bad looking, heard she actually wants to give you love potion, Dumbledore is just an old idiot who you value way too much and I don't know, start doing yoga or some shit. In addition we're in the library, here."
Harry chuckled surprised by Louis' solution to everything taking the book that appeared to be actually helpful for his charms homework. How did he even do that? "I don't like her though."
"Well you can't always have what you want." That hit so much closer to home than Louis wanted. He was trying hard to ignore his own emotions but the git was making it hard, always hanging out with him at this point he wasn't even sure if he still has friends? Does Louis still have his?
                              "Who are you taking?"
                              "No one."
"You're going alone?" The curly-haired lad was way more shocked than he thinks would have been appropriate.
"Yes, when did I ever sink to anyone's level here? Why would that change now?" Louis grabbed his hand and started to pull him back out to the halls, running along towards the main exit.
"We'll be late from Hagrid." Harry kept whatever he wanted inside and simply let himself be dragged outside.
                              "Great to see you two."
"Can't say the same." Harry elbowed him hard but they got on with it. "Not to be rude."
"What are we supposed to do here?"
"I can't actually say that, just try to find leads, anything that is out of the order you should report."
"That's bloody amazing, like searching for a needle in the hay."
"Sorry kids, I'll go that way the two of you stay together and go towards the willow first."
Harry cringed truly hating that tree but intertwined his hand with Louis', nodding to show they understood.
After Hagrid disappeared in the thick fog that covered every inch of the woods they started to walk as well.
"Do you think it's bad that I don't want to take anyone?"
"No why would it be?" Harry simply shrugged but the question made Louis curious. He said nothing just yet as he wouldn't appreciate Harry asking questions the other way around.
"And is there anyone you like? Outside of Hogwarts?" Like that question, it really tickled his pickle.
"Okay what the hell Harold? Why do you care so much about my bloody life? Just because I don't give two flying ducks about anyone as of right now that doesn't mean that it's normal and will make it normal for you."
"I'm sorry I wasn't trying to..." Louis heard a twig snap and thumping started to get louder.
He smacked his hand across the curly-haired lad's mouth, pushing him back against a tree and pressing his own body on top. He casted a disillusionment charm, hoping whatever is coming this will be good enough.
Harry was surprised at first but after a second he settled down, clearly hearing what the tiny lad did as well. Louis closed his eyes almost like if he couldn't see would help them being unseen.
Pushing his head into Harry's neck, not daring to pull away his palm that was flush against those plump lips, he heard the creatures thudding past them. They sounded like centaurs which would heavily imply that they were safe but he still stood without moving, like a sculpture.
Harry's hand ran up along his side, just then gaining his attention to both of his arms being wrapped around his waist. The motion was absolutely unnecessary he could have just lift his hand but he had to touch Louis just to be the freaking git he is.
He hid his shiver still not moving just to make sure while the taller boy's digits twined around his delicate wrist, gently pulling his hand away from his face.
"They're gone." Louis plainly took a deep breath, not certain why he did that. He loved Harry's scent because it reminded him of good times and safety. It was still odd so he tried to act like it didn't happen while Styles said nothing about it.
"That was definitely worth noting as bizarre, centaurs don't run around like that unless there's danger. It could also be the fact that the ministry is taking more and more of their territory but not up for us to decide. Write it down."
Acting like nothing happened was apparently the way to go as Harry went along with his unspoken wishes and did as told.
They kept wandering around, writing down odd marks on trees and such things but the smaller lad was way more focused on the fact that they were holding hands. Surely Harry was probably trying to not lose him in the hazy weather but to him it felt like more. It felt normal, making him feel content like holding the curly-haired boy's hand would be what he always should do.
"I think it's getting way too late, let's go back and find Hagrid. We've come way too far already." Harry agreed and let go of his hand only to clasp his waist and help him jump off of a bigger root that created a small cliff.
"I'm sorry by the way." Louis hoped that said apology will be enough humiliation but Harry was never one to be sharp about these things.
"About what?" The question was still careful, the stupid git clearly knowing him well enough even though he was exceedingly dense.
"About snapping at you. Listen Haz you have so much on your plate already, I think you'd be insane if you would be caring about random girls right now, not the other way around." Harry smiled but didn't say anything perhaps knowing how far he can push Louis. He appeared to know such things better than he did.
"Finally the two of you are back so?"
"Here's everything we found." Harry gave over the notebook and they were let go right away, walking back to Hogwarts.
Louis grinned idiotically when he realised that Harry's walking him to the dungeons but tried to keep one step ahead so he wouldn't be caught.
"Thank you." The shorter lad nodded and turned towards the painting telling their password. He turned back from the doorway, Harry still standing there and watching.
"Want to come in?" He wasn't sure why he asked that, there was absolutely no explanation why he could possible want Harry to stay but like always the lanky boy handled this just the right way to not make it weird and nodded without a word.
It's only strange if they make it and they didn't so the pair sneaked up to Louis' room and got into his bed, both glad about doing this but neither voicing it.
