‘I had gone to my room, to change my dress for something comfortable, so I could stay the night here. When I was in my room Jace came up to me. He sat down on my bed and that’s when he told me that no matter how hard he would fight for me or how much he wanted me to be with him, he knew it wasn’t right, he knew I wouldn’t be as happy with him than if I would be with you. He knew it the first second he saw us together, that it was not his place by my side, but it was yours. He told me he wanted it to work out between him and me, but he knew it was wrong. He knew I really loved him, it wasn’t enough and it wasn’t true love. I’ve got to say that the whole true love thing that Flora was talking about is making a bit of sense now. I don’t know what people have here with the true love thing.’ Hope shrugged. ‘ I told him I was sorry, but he said it was okay, as if I could do something about it. I told him I did love him and he said that he knew.’
“I wish it was enough.”
Hope sighed.
‘So…..’ Finn said.
‘You broke up?’ he asked.
Hope sighed and nodded.
‘Are you okay?’ he asked.
‘Not really.’ she said.
‘You really loved him?’ he asked.
Hope knew he didn’t want to ask this, because he knew the answer would hurt him.
‘Yes.’ she said.
‘But I knew it too, all along.’ Hope said.
‘Something told me that something was off.’ Hope said.
‘And now I know what was feeling wrong.’ Hope said looking Finn in the eyes.
‘Care to share it?’ he asked.
Hope rolled her eyes.
‘You know, I told you a lot of times.’ Finn said.
‘Really? I didn’t notice.’ Hope said.
Finn smirked.
‘I missed you.’ he said.
‘I missed you too.’ she said.
Finn lifted his hand up to cup her cheek.
‘Regardless of what has happened Hope, I won’t leave your side. Never.’ he said.
‘I was scared you would say something like that.’ she sighed.
‘I mean it.’
‘I do too.’ Hope said.
‘We’ll survive this, together.’ Finn said.
‘Who says there is a “together”?’ Hope asked.
‘I do.’ he said.
‘Oh so you’re making the decisions now?’ Hope said.
‘Of course I do.’ Finn said.
Hope chuckled and rolled her eyes. Hope got up and placed her hand on the matrass, just next to Finn’s leg. Her face now inches away from his. She heard his breathing becoming heavy.
‘You wish.’ she whispered and then got up again.
‘See you later.’ she said walking to the door.
‘That’s not fair! Where is my kiss?’ he asked.
‘Oh boohoo, get over yourself.’ she said walking out of the room.
She turned the corner and leaned against the wall with her back. She smiled to herself. How did she ever fall for that idiot? She was glad that Jace didn’t stop writing her letters, he had told her that if she ever changed her mind he would be waiting for her. She felt so sorry for him, because what if she would never change her mind. She hadn’t told him to not wait, because what if she would be a huge danger for everyone here? And with Finn like this, Jace can take care of himself, but Finn, right at this moment? He probably can’t even walk on his own, let alone defending himself. No she kept the option open to go back with Jace, maybe even marry him, if necessary.
