Trey
"Trey?"
"Yeah?"
I looked up from my phone and gave Kevin my attention.
He had been talking about ten minutes into our scheduled Zoom meeting when my phone started to ring.
"I was saying, starting next week, we really need to lock in..."
"Kevin, I need a sec. Nikki said the school is calling and Tae isn't back from her trip yet. I need to take this."
"Okay, let's pause. Come back when you're done."
"Bet."
Turning the video and audio off from the call, I stood and found the number from my contacts and called the front office.
"Good morning, St. Agnes. Dean Robertson."
"This is Tremaine Neverson, Trinity's dad, returning your call."
"Hi Mr. Neverson," she replied, "how are you?"
"Well, thanks. My assistant said you're trying to contact me. Is everything okay?"
"There was an incident this morning where Trinity threatened to assault her classmate."
Oh, fuck.
"That doesn't sound like my daughter. What happened?"
"She won't say. We don't want to suspend her because she is such an excellent student. This is certainly not like her as you well know. However, she isn't leaving us much of a choice if she won't let us know what the problem is."
I sighed and shook my head.
"I'm on the way."
Twenty five minutes later...
"Daddy!"
"Hey baby doll."
Her arms outstretched as I walked into the dean's office at her private school.
Her demeanor was calm although she looked nervous about my reaction. I walked over to pick her up.
After kissing her cheek, I looked her in the eye.
"You cutting up at these people school?" I whispered.
"No." She mumbled playing with the collar of my crispy tee.
Her eyes carefully cut to Bugzi to my right and then the dean across the room who was looking directly at us.
"Can we have a moment?" I asked them both.
Bugzi and Dean Robertson nodded and left us alone.
I walked us over to a chair seated in front of a desk and sat down.
"What happened?"
"Amy said I think I'm special but I shouldn't...cause I'm not."
"Amy doesn't know you. So Amy's opinion doesn't matter." I replied calmly.
