"So...what you think?"
Alex nervously pushed the black rimmed frames he wore closer to his eyes.
I watched the expression on his face and kept my face staunch only to fuck with him a bit.
When he was about to talk, I smiled.
"I really fuck with it," I admitted truthfully as he exhaled, "let me hear it again?"
"Dead ass?"
I nodded and gestured to the soundboard for him to hit the button to start the track over.
Back in Virginia, Alex and I sat in the studio at my home.
He started to start the song over as my phone rung.
"Hold up a sec though, I need to get this." I said before the song could start.
"Cool," he replied standing, "i'ma run up to the kitchen and grab a bag of chips if that's cool? You just made my stomach rumble and shit."
I chuckled and shook my head.
"Don't ask me about no chips, nigga," I said light heartedly as I answered, "help yourself. Yeah?"
"Hi." Helen spoke timidly, "what's up?"
"Chilling," I replied, "you aight?"
"Yeah," she said as her voice seemed to lighten up, "is it a good time to talk?"
"Uh huh."
"Good," she added, "I was hoping we could talk about me seeing Rose soon? I'm trying to, you know, respect things, like we discussed, and set a plan in motion?"
"I don't have an issue with either," I answered matter of factly, "let's schedule it."
"Great," she replied creating an awkward silence, "um, the next time you're free? I'm not working right now so...I'm not tied to any particular timeline."
"How about this; let me talk to Tae and get back with you."
"Cool." She responded with relief, "I'll wait on your call then."
"Bet. Talk to you soon."
I ended the call as Alex walked back in with a small bag of Doritos.
"All good?" He asked sitting back down.
I nodded as Forrest joined us.
"Yooooo...." He said dapping us both.
"What up boy?" I replied.
"What y'all on?"
"Listening to a beat Al made," I said absently, "what you got going?"
"Shit, dropped the boy off with the folks and was headed home to Richmond. You were on the way and it's been a minute. Thought I'd stop through see if you, my sis, and the bucks was here. House quiet as hell upstairs."
