Chapter 24

"What do you mean?"

Hobi asks.

He is already puzzled by the man who is covering his face as if he were a walking mummy.

"I know where she is. Before I leave for States, I felt that I should meet Yoongi. Where is he?"

"He.. well.." Hoseok stammers.

Min Yoongi appears in the hallway.

"Oremmaniya, Seungyoon."

"You two know each other?" Hobi asks pointing his finger at either of them alternatively.

"Yeah, we do. Yoongi, Kristene is in Donghan's laboratory."

"Laboratory? What the heck …?"

Yoongi stops in the middle of the sentence.

"Just why do not we invite our informant guest in for some tea?"

Jin pushes Yoongi and asks. "It is rude to talk to a friend by keeping him at the door."

"Thank you so much. But I have to make a run for the airport as well, so a quick cup of tea would be perfect, Jin."

"Wait, you all know each other and I don't?" Hobi pouts.

"Oh sweetheart, we will explain later, but now we have things to do." Jin pats Hoseok on his back and shoves him into the kitchen with the pretext that Jin required the help of Hoseok to make a decent cup of tea.

As the two was away, Yoongi had some alone time with Yoon.

"Donghan is about to perform a memory change on Kristene."

"Why?"

"You mean you do not know what was about the bad blood between them?"

"Aniyo. Nobody told me. What is that?"

"To cut things short, Donghan loved Kristene since they were in middle school and beng his best friend, from what I have heard from him, their friendship was went to lengths of nearly being a relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend," Yoon says.

"So she dated before? Weird how she never told me." Yoongi smirks.

He was unable to believe that she could deceive him with so much of less effort.

"It was not dating Yoongi. Donghan used to have a fake SNS profile and he fished out Kristene and when he said that he would take his own life if she does not spend a night with him, she had engaged in what we term - a sex chat."

Yoongi is dumbfounded. "But she does not even know how to kiss really!"

"That is the thing Yoongi. Donghan and his lame threat to end his life, got Kristene caught between the fires. I think she was confused big time and she chose to save him by sacrificing her virginity virtually."

"Why are you telling me these now Yoon? And why did not she tell me anything  AT ALL?"

"If I answer why she did not tell you, she might have feared that you might leave her. You were the last person she had on earth and you cannot really blame her for hiding her bleak past. I know her since middle school and she is the type to be scared even due to nightmares. I guess you have seen her sweating even on cold days as if she had seen a monster."

"That is true. I have seen her shaking so much when she is sleeping but I never thought that something big like that was bothering her!"

"She did not tell you, but it was eating her up at night. Even at the lab, she would have seizures and the docs say that her brain functioning is severely arrested by the horrible memories she have of Donghan. Poor girl.

I believe that she really loves you. And Donghan is upto no good and he is going to mess with her memories of you and change those memories to be made between him and her. That makes you their rival, you see? I am telling these now because now I have severed all strings with Donghan and I am leaving the country. Donghan used to make me dance to the tunes he played as he was financing my sisters hospital bills. But now… I have decided to make things right before I leave."

"But what would Donghan get from changing her memories?"

"Something very cheap of course. He is trying to satisfy his lust after her and satiate his revenge on you, for making her fall for you. He came all this way with our support even deceiving us that he is doing this to make amends and make Kristene relieve herself from all the scars she got from him, but things have gone out of the hands now."

"That son of a ..." Yoongi curses.

"I honestly think that Donghan needs medication. He behaves like a psycho and he is probably after me already. But today, the Memory Change was to happen and I made the chef bake a pie from the berries that grew in the island Hongdo where the lab is located. And I sincerely hope she is alive now."

Yoongi is walking back and forth in the room and with the last line that Yoon utters, he stops and yanks Yoon fom his collar.

"What did you say?"

"She might be alive… I hope she is. The truth is that she wants to die as soon as I possible. She did not want her memories about you to be distorted and you Min Genius threw a fit when you received the parcel Donghan sent to you by a courier. In case you did not know, Donghan plans out everything well and it is really difficult to find loopholes in his plans. This time he showed everything that was happening here by the camera that was fixed to a lily pot of yours, outside. Kristene was so broken after that. It made her clear that you doubted her so easily and you had no intention of trying to find her again. She forced me to get the berries."

"In which case, Kristene being Kristene, she would prefer death than being betrayed by the person whom she loved and trusted," says Jin as he enters the room with a cup of tea that sends swirls of steam into the air.

"You are right Jin. But the berries I have sent to the kitchen are poisonous and can have 50\50 results. Either she will live - which can be purely based on luck … else she will be ..."

"... dead."

Yoongi finishes Yoon's sentence.
