POV of Reader

"Okay! Let's take a break!" Nidai announced. I felt like passing out as I collapsed onto the gym floor. I had stupidly agreed to join Akane and Nekomaru in their training for today and just wanted to go back to my cottage and sleep. I thought it would be fun to spend time with them, since I already talked to the two of them a lot. They hyped the training session up so much, I felt obligated to join.. I'm not a sports person.. but I do work out often. But this was too much for me. "C'mon, (Y/n)! You're tired already? That was only the warmup!" Akane said teasingly. "You're kidding, right?" I gasped. "Nope! Now get up, we're gonna work on our core!" she said, pulling me up. "I don't think my core can handle any more.." I panted. "That's just the first-day pain! It'll go away in an hour!" She chirped. My legs felt like they were about to give out any second now..

As Akane ran up to Nekomaru, he told her to do a quick run around the island. When Akane left, he walked up to me as I pushed myself to stand straight. He came down to my level and told me, "You can go to your cottage now." "But.. what about the session?" I asked. "I understand this is too much to ask of you, since you're not an athlete," he said. His voice was loud, but understanding and calm. "I just didn't want to let Akane down.." I mumbled. "Yeah, I get it. You did pretty damn good, though!" He said encouragingly, giving me an enthusiastic thumbs up. "Thanks, Nidai.." I said weakly. "Why don't I help you back?" He suggested, handing me a bottle of water. I nodded, dazed as he slung his arm around my shoulders, his strong grip holding me up as we walked to my cottage. Nekomaru continued to talk about maybe doing a lighter exercise tomorrow, or going for a run tonight. I kept aimlessly nodding, while focusing on staying conscious.

"(Y/n)?" I heard Nekomaru say as we arrived at my cottage. "Yeah?" I replied as he sat me down next to the front door. "Can I ask you something?" "Sure.." I saw him take a deep breath and say to himself, "Confidence.." He turned to me, a bright blush appearing on his face. "Since we first met.. I can't help but look at you.. you've always been a stunning girl to me.." he said. I stared at him, visibly confused. Usually, Nekomaru is super confident and loud. But, seeing him so gentle and flustered is just.. unsettling... "A-And it's not just your beauty! Your determination and selfless acts are amazing! You have a fighting spirit that can't be taken away!" He shouted, "I've fallen for you, (Y/n).. And I'm gonna fight for you!" "Nekomaru, you don't have to fight for me.." I said quietly. He fell silent, "What do you mean?" I took his hand and looked into his eyes, "I like you too, Nidai." He blushed a heavy red, when he suddenly hugged me tightly with tears running down his face. "I'll make you proud, (Y/n)!" He announced. "You'd better.." I grinned.

As I rested in my cottage that night, I remembered what Nekomaru told me..

"I'll make you proud, (Y/n)!"

Maybe I'll try an easier exercise tomorrow..
