Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko all sat in the waiting room of the Future Foundation Infirmary.
They had all escaped from the simulation of the killing game and were later informed by a group what actually happened. The simulation 'Danganronpa' led by Tsumugi was one of the more advanced virtual reality programs after the Neo World Program. They have been given coordinates of the group whereabouts and immediately worked on trying to free them including their deceased friends. However, that turned out to be harder than it looked. There was apparently some sort of bug that was making it unable to restore everyone's memories. Eventually, a nurse with uneven hair walked out of the room, concern on her face. "Well?" Maki asked more than a little irritated from the lack of news. "I-I'm s-sorry for what I'm about to say but...you wanted to s-save e-everyone...right?" the nurse stuttered out. "Yes...That's right." Himiko spoke, concerned. Mikan gulped.
"Well I'm afraid that won't be possible"
"Won't be possible?! W-Why?!" Maki stood up from her chair outraged. Shuichi calmed her down. Maki has been quite determined to bring Kaito back at any cost, ever since the simulation ended and when there was even the smallest amount of doubt about anything she'd bite her nails or have an emotional outburst. "Well, you see your avatars were made with code. Lines of different dialogue, sprites, and scripted thoughts all designed by Tsumugi, but there was also another file...Soul.exe" Mikan explained
What.
Everyone looked at each other confused. Soul.exe? It sounded as if it came out of some science fiction novel. "It was a file attached to your avatar. Upon death, the file would be deleted and the body would become an empty shell and all that person ever said or thought would become meaningless rubbish." She explained fiddling with her hair "Think of it as a computer equivalent of consciousness. Now you'd imagine Tsumugi would have back up soul files in case she wanted to bring someone back like she did in the past Danganronpa simulations but..." She spoke going silent. "But what?" Himiko asked.
"She put in only 6... this means we can only give the soul file to either the victim or the killer of each trial. You'll have to vote who you want to live. This doesn't include Kiibo as his mind didn't need a soul file just his system getting reprogrammed." She said quietly. There was a moment of silence. Tears streamed down from Shuichi's eyes and Maki looked at the ground with sadness in her eyes. Even in the end despair STILL comes back to haunt them? "I've gathered the names of the other participants. All you have to do is sign under the info and the person will live. However, it needs all of your signatures for the person to live. No hesitation." she said walking off. Everyone looked at each other.
"H-How are we supposed to judge our own friends...? We shouldn't be in charge of such decisions..." Himiko asked biting her nails. "Unfortunately as you know, all of your possible relatives were killed upon you entering the game." Mikan said "Therefore you're the only people left alive that knew them. You're the only ones who can do this." she said sadly. "It's not fair...IT'S NOT FAIR!" Maki said slamming her hand against the wall. "W-Well we have to choose..." Saihara said somberly. "What do we vote?" Himiko asked. Mikan slowly handed a clipboard to us with the names of the survivors on them and a few boxes to tick next to them depending on our choice. Shuichi shakily held the pen as the group made their choice by a long discussion.
