Saihara and his friends were on a beach. It was a hot summer day and Kaede took that as an opportunity to hang out with the rest of their friends and drag him out of his room. He sighed annoyed. He didn't really want to be here. The beach didn't really bring back any good memories...in fact, it only brought fear and caused his aquaphobia to spark. So he never understood why Kaede brought him here. Was she trying to get him to overcome his fear? He truly didn't know. You might also ask why? What happened on the beach that scarred him so much?
Well...
She's drowning! Somebody get her out!
I can't see her, where is she?!
Stop panicking! It's not gonna get her out!
What's going on...?
Somebody, please get this kid out of here!
M-Mom? MOM ARE YOU OKAY?!
Shuichi step back!
MOM!
Shuichi flinched at the memory. His mom drowned when he was only ten years old when his family spent their vacation at their beach house. He never forgot that day and it traumatized him since. So every time when he was at the beach he stayed in one spot, staring at the water sadly. He looked over at his friends. They were having fun, splashing each other with water and swimming. He sighed. He dipped his toes into the water only to retract. The cold water, cold like the deep embrace of death. He shivered. Stop thinking about it! It's been years, when will you finally accept she's dead?! He sighed.
He didn't even have many memories after her. He looked again at his friends. This place was far enough away from them... he felt a few tears from his eyes. He, however, snapped out of it when he saw something swim in the water. His eyes widened. Whatever it was, it had a shiny, sparkling purple tail. It didn't look like a normal fish. The creature raised its head above water. It was...a merman. That's weird, weren't mermaids fictional beings? He froze and just stared as the mermaid swam closer to the shore.
He had purple hair and purple eyes. "What is a human doing at my hangout spot? Man, I'm annoyed" he said irritated. "O-Oh I'm sorry... I-I didn't know" he stuttered out. He was about to leave but the merman interrupted him. "Why are you crying? You aren't that annoyed with me taking back my spot are you?" he asked. "O-Oh! I'm not crying because of y-you!" he said "My friends took me here to the beach but I don't want to be here... I have bad memories of this place." he said sadly.
"You have bad memories of this place and they take you here anyway. Some friends you have." he commented. Shuichi looked away. "If you don't mind me diving too deep into your problems. HA! Diving too deep! Didn't even notice that pun." He laughed before looking at Shuichi serious. "Okay but really, I'm curious." he asked. "My mom drowned when I was ten here...Ever since then I had a fear of water...I still get nightmares about the night it happened" he said quietly. The merman hummed. "I'm really sorry..." he said. "I saw a woman drown in the water once. She drowned before I managed to get to her. I couldn't later find her body. All I ever found is her necklace. It's really pretty." he then added. "Would you like to see it?" he asked. Shuichi looked at him. He was too consumed by his grief to care about what the merman was saying anyway.
He simply nodded and watched the merman swim down to the bottom. After a few minutes, he came back up with a small treasure chest. It was rusty and covered in kelp. "I generally enjoy hoarding things you humans drop into the water. This necklace was pretty so I took it. Although I don't like the plastic things you throw away. I almost choked on that stuff." he said pulling out a necklace. It had a small heart locket on the end. "There's a picture of a woman and her child inside it. They look quite happy" he said opening the locket and showing it to Shuichi. Shuichi looked at it and his eyes widened. He ripped the locket out of Ouma's hands. He shook as he saw the same person with blue hair that drowned when he was ten.
