Kokichi couldn't believe he ended up here.

Working at a maid cafe wasn't something he imagined himself doing ever but sadly he didn't have a choice. His mum was recovering from an alcohol addiction and definitely not in a state where she'd be able to work and his father straight-up walked out the door on them so let's just say if he didn't get a job soon, it meant bad news for them. And not to mention the tuition fees that came with going to Hope's Peak. And Kirumi was kind enough to use her connections as a former employee to land him a job.

He was doing pretty well as a maid even though some customers seemed put off by the fact he was a guy. However, there was one group of people who probably saw it as their duty to make his life hell. They'd insult him, make him trip, sometimes pretend that he messed up their order even if everyone knew he didn't. But they never got caught so they could come as much as they wanted. He was sure this was because of his gender so every time they came he just asked some other people like Sayaka to take their order since they seemed to like her.

Because of his financial situation, he never took breaks, never rested and sometimes took extra hours. He needed the money and he needed it BAD. So he continued this even though it was slowly taking over his free time and caused him to lose his overall enthusiasm. He couldn't even remember the last time he could hang out with his friend Kiibo. He visited the cafe sometimes but visiting your friend's workplace is not like hanging out at his house or at the park. Kokichi couldn't pay him as much attention as he wished. He just hoped the metal head would understand.

Today was like any other day, another late-night shift. He dressed in his uniform. As he dressed he stared at the bandages on his arms. Injuries suffered due to the group of idiots as well as his mother who tended to get into fits of rage when drunk. Thank god she's going on rehab. But the injuries still hurt badly. He sighed standing up now dressed in the uniform. The day went by calmly, thankfully the group didn't show up today. It was now late and not many customers came by this hour to order so it meant Kokichi could relax a bit. There were about four people in the bar, some regulars, some new. Kokichi had them all basically memorized at this point since he spent almost every hour of his day here.

In the corner was the couple Tsumugi Shirogane and Rantaro. They often came because it seemed Tsumugi enjoyed maid cafes and Rantaro just wanted her to be happy. In another corner was Leon, a redheaded dick trying his best to flirt with Sayaka, but failing due to how dense Sayaka could be to pick up on it. And then there was the new boy who just walked in.

Kokichi never saw him before in the cafe. He had dark blue hair along with a black baseball hat and a black uniform. Ouma adjusted his uniform before putting on his fake grin and doing his usual maid shtick. Calling people master made him sick to his stomach but he didn't have a choice. "I'll just have an expresso please" Ouma smiled and nodded. Soon coffee was made along with a small cat cookie on the side to make it cuter. "Here you go Master~" he said handing the coffee to notice the stranger had a book pulled out. More specifically...

Kokichi's favorite book.

"A-Ah t-thank you..." the stranger seemed to fluster at the usage of 'Master'. Ouma chuckled. "The Mystery of The Phantom Thief? Cool book." He muttered unconsciously, the boy hearing him. "You like it? I never heard of anyone enjoying this book..." he said. Ouma hummed. "Long time fan. I love the dynamic of the two protagonists and don't get me even started on the thief himself! But you probably don't want to listen to me ramble" Ouma said.

"No no, I'm happy to find a fellow book fan. I don't really know many people who enjoy this book series so I don't have anyone to talk to about it." the boy spoke softly. Kokichi stared at him for a moment with a smile. "Listen, the business gets slow at this time of day and spending time just sitting around isn't that interesting so how about I just sit down and we can fanboy over the Phantom Thief's hijinks as much as we want?" he said sitting opposite of Shuichi. "Sounds like a plan. Name's Shuichi by the way." he said happily. "Nishishi~ I'm Kokichi Ouma" he said softly.
