Saihara had no real friends.
That was just a fact.
Shuichi didn't really have a problem with spending time alone. He spent most of his time talking to his stuffed animals or reading stories with fictional characters but even that left a slight emptiness in his soul. However this emptiness...
Was about to end.

It was a quiet winter day when Shuichi casually sat in his room reading books about wizards and mages to pass the time. He had run out of detective books and conspiracy theory books so fantasy books would have to do.
He was honestly enjoying the book so far and was getting to the climax when a cheerful voice interrupted him.
"Hi!"
Saihara turned away from the book. Nobody was in his room. He sighed. He must be imagining things again.
"How boring! I'm outside, dummy!"
Saihara closed the book and looked outside the window. A short boy with purple hair and a checkered scarf sat in front of the window in the house next door. Saihara could only assume that he was the child of the new neighbor. "Hi...?" Shuichi said confused as to what the boy could want from him "Are you my new neighbor...?" He asked shyly.
"Yep! My name's Kokichi Ouma! What'cha reading?" He pointed at the book, Shuichi held in his hands. "O-Oh! I'm reading this book about a girl named Luelle or something? I-I run out of detective novels and conspiracy books so I decided to read this." Shuichi explained quickly. "Detective novels, huh? I absolutely love detective novels! Have you heard of the detective Kirigiri series?" Ouma asked, taking out a small book with the female detective on the cover. "You kidding? I have the whole series!" Shuichi said, his eyes sparkling. Ouma smiled "It's great, isn't it? Anyways, what's your name?" He asked. "My name's Shuichi," Shuichi answered. He had to admit it was nice to talk to someone of similar interests to him or talk at all considering how quiet Shuichi usually was.
They decided on spending the rest of the evening talking about books and casual things such as school, why Ouma moved and other shared interests. When the sun finally set, Ouma said bye to Shuichi and quickly covered the window with his star curtains, leaving to presumably go to bed. Saihara decided that since it was late, he might as well do the same. He lied down to bed when he suddenly heard strange noises coming from outside. Yelling that was too muffled for Shuichi to understand the words, a door violently opening and... glass shattering? He wasn't sure what it was so he looked outside his window but was unable to locate where the supposed noise was coming from. So with that, he decided to brush it off as nothing and try to sleep.

Ouma and Shuichi continued to talk to each other and have become best friends in a short amount of time. Their conversation topics varied. From games to friends to even things that seemed dumb to the both of them like love. Shuichi had to admit, Ouma's playful and lying personality was charming in its own way. And he progressively got more attached to the purple-haired boy with time. The only thing that bothered him were the reoccurring strange sounds coming from their apartment
Ouma then began visiting Shuichi, climbing out through his window and using the tree in his backyard to get to Saihara's. They'd then play card games and other games Ouma found fun to play. One time during one of those visits, Ouma suddenly said
