Chapter 44: Broken Boy!

     Aaron parked the car outside of the house as Emily sat in the passengers seat. Aaron turned to look at his fiance. "How are you doing?" Aaron asked. "I don't know." Emily replied. "You can talk to me about anything." Aaron told her as he out his hand on her thigh. "I know I can, Aaron. But I really don't know how I feel, I have so many mixed emotions." Emily told him. "How come?" Aaron asked. "Because putting him away, getting justice.... It was supposed to be fulfilling and I'm suppose to feel free and relieved. Then everything with my mom.... I just fell, I don't know, empty." Emily told him as she looked down with tears in her eyes. Aaron made her look up at him and wiped her tears with his thumb. "You're not empty, Emily. You have such a big heart, bigger then anyone I have ever known. Your capacity of love is amazing and only one of the reasons why I fell in love with you. You're going to get through this, I know you are. You are so stronger, stronger then anyone I have ever seen in my life. You have already been through so much. If anyone can get through this, it's you." Aaron explained and Emily smiled. "I love you." Emily told him and he smiled as well. "I love you too." Aaron agreed. They leaned in and then they kissed sweetly.
      Emily and Aaron walked in their house as they held hands. Then Jack ran up and gave them both a hug. "How are you today?" Aaron asked. "I'm good." Jack replied. Emily looked over and noticed Declan asleep on the couch. Aaron noticed her watching him and he took his sons hand. "Let's get you off to bed." Aaron suggested and he nodded. "I guess." Jack agreed. They both laughed as they walked up the stairs. Emily sighed and walked towards the couch. She covered him with a blanket and sat on the edge of the couch as she smiled down at him. Declan opened his eyes and looked up at Emily. "Hey." Emily greeted. "Hi." Declan greeted. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. "How was your day?" Emily asked. "I slept a lot." Declan replied. "I'm not surprised. You've had a rough time." Emily told him. "And how was your day?" Declan asked and Emily sighed. "Rough." Emily replied. "We've both had it hard." Declan commented and Emily nodded. "Yeah, we really have." Emily agreed. "What's going to happen to me now?" Declan asked and Emily shrugged. "I don't know, kid." Emily replied. "I want to stay with you. I know you'll love me and protect me, you already have in the past. I'm alive because of you." Declan told her and Emily hugged him. "I would love to keep you, but we'll just have to wait and see." Emily told him.
     Emily walked into her and Aaron's room. "How's Declan?" Aaron asked as he was already in bed. "He's fine." Emily replied. "Are you going to tell me?" Aaron asked and Emily pushed her eyebrows together. "Tell you what?" Emily asked. "If you're going to keep him." Aaron replied. Emily sighed as she got into bed with him. "I tried helping him for so long. I saved him from Ian and his new foster family. Honestly, I would love to keep Declan and take care of him." Emily told him and Aaron smiled. "Then that is what we will do." Aaron told her and Emily looked over at him. "How will that work?" Emily asked. "It will. He can share a room with Jack and we'll enroll him in school, it can and will work." Aaron replied. "The after math will be fine, we can figure that out. But how do we keep him?" Emily asked. "I'm sure social services will let us adopt him." Aaron replied and Emily nodded. "I hope so." Emily agreed.
     Emily, Aaron, Jack, and Declan was over at JJ's. Jack and Henry were in Henry's room playing and Michel was asleep. The adults were in the kitchen, but still in sight of the living room. Declan was sitting on the couch in the living room all by himself. "He seems shut off." JJ commented and Emily nodded. "I don't blame him." Emily agreed. "Just like someone else I know." Aaron commented and JJ laughed. "Very funny." Emily commented. "He does seem like you. Bad life growing up, shuts everyone out." Will commented. "Okay, you guys can all shut up now." Emily told them and they all laughed. "You know we love you." JJ told him as she put her arm around her friend and Emily nodded. "I know." Emily agreed. "So you're really thinking about taking him in?" Will asked and Emily sighed as she turned to face them. "Yeah. I mean, he doesn't have anyone else and I've always tried to help him in the past. He deserves better then what has happened to him." Emily replied. "So did you." Aaron told her and she gave a small smile. "How does Jack feel about it?" JJ asked. "I actually talked to him about it this morning, and he's okay with it. He likes the idea of having a sibling, he rather that then be an only child for the rest of his life." Aaron replied. "But he will have songs anyways. I mean, you'll have kids soon, right?" JJ asked. Emily and Aaron looked at each in awkward silence. "We, um, we haven't actually talked about that yet." Aaron replied. "You really should." Will commented and Aaron nodded. "And we will, once we get this whole Declan thing figured out." Aaron told them. "Declan will be fine, especially since he has you two in his corner." JJ reassured and Emily smiled.
      Aaron, Will, and Derek were all moving a second bed into Jack's room. Emily was unsure if doing it already was a good idea, since they don't know if Declan can even stay yet or not. Emily heard a knock at the door and put a strand of hair behind her ear. She stood up and answered the door as she looked at the man standing there. "May I help you?" Emily asked. "Hi, I'm Mr. Robinson. From Social Services." Mr. Robinson replied and Emily gasped, not knowing what to say.
