"What on the hell did you do?" Cal roared. He shook his head. and gently pulled my hand closer to him. "You burned it pretty good. It's going to be awhile before it feels any better." he said calming down.
Cal reached in the first aid kit that he had taken out of the bathroom and began to treat my hand. I can hear Angel crying in the other room and my head jerks to see if I can catch a glimpse of her.
"Hey!" Cal shouted, "Quick moving."
I turn back around and Cal continues to wrap my hand in the bandage. "So you gonna tell me what happened?" he questioned.
"I grabbed the bottle out of the water without thinking," I whispered. Cal shook his head.
"Well that wasn't smart."
"I know." I closed my eyes as Cal tightened the bandage.
"Is that Angel?" Cal asked motioning to the door. I nodded. "Have you heard anything from Shawn?" I shook my head. I hadn't heard anything. No note, phone call, or even a card. I tried not to think about it because when I did my stupid mind always went to the worst possible scenario.
Emily came into the room with Angel on her hip. She wasn't crying anymore but the tears were still on her cheek. Angel reached out her hands to me. Emily placed her on my lap. I wrapped her in my arms and held her close to me.
"All right. You are good to go," Cal smiled. He got up and opened his desk drawer. He pulled out two lollipops. He gave one to Angel but held the other in front of me. I reached for it but he pulled it away.
"No more boiling water," he reprimanded. I nodded and reached for the lollipop again. He pulled it away once more. "I mean it. If you and Angel need something come over here."
I nod again but don't say anything.
