Alexis Journal Entry 38

Erik and Luna were new in town. They had moved to our little town from Tennessee. They lived in one of the old plantation houses near the Deaf school. Their parents wanted a change, some peace. 

Out of nowhere Angel started laughing. Luna and I started laughing too. I knew then that Luna and I were going to be good friends. I knew in my gut. Sometimes you just know I guess.

Erik and Luna stared hanging out with us. Luna and I became very close. She became like my sister. She and I became inseparable. I don't think Shawn knew how much it meant to have Luna as a friend.One that never made fun of me in a mean way and didn't care that I like to dress in black. I didn't have any friends. I could tell Luna things that I couldn't tell Shawn. I could go shopping with her, something Shawn didn't mind but was obviously torture to him.

We would have sleepovers at Cal and Emily's house. We would do each other's makeup and stay up late watching scary movies. We would paint each other's nails and gossip about things that were going on at school. I had so much fun spending time with Luna.

Luna and Erik's parents worked a lot. They were hardly ever home. I was like their children were an inconvenience for them. Luna's mom was especially hard on her. Her mom wanted her to be the stepford daughter all the time. She made her dress the part too. 

Erik on the other hand was completely different story. He was the typical skater boy. Whenever he and Luna were together, they were joined at the hip. Erik was protective of Luna. He was trying to protect her from life itself and herself.

Luna loved pink. She wore it all the time. She even had matching pink school supplies and hair bows. Luna wasn't allowed to do much. If she got so much as a B, her mom scolded her. Her mom made her feel worthless.

Erik didn't take it. Whenever his mom scolded Luna, Erik would yell back at her. It was obvious she favored Erik over Luna. Erik could have anything he wanted but he never seemed to ask. I admire him for that.
